How To Unravel The Myth Of A First Grade Imposter

If we lose this game i think we can call it a tactical blunder by Smith (assuming he is going with 7 forwards).

That's quite a stretch. Canberra will be hard to beat on their home turf no matter what squad or game plan we use. If we get belted it doesn't mean we wouldn't have been belted by more with Dureau in the team. If we win there will be no conclusive evidence that we wouldn't have won anyway with him in the team. The only sure thing about the latter will be that Karmawave will post a dissertation fatter than Danny Wicks attempting to prove it.

He has given his stopgap plan for the halves plenty of time to click this year, and quite frankly we have lost several close games because of it.

I assume you mean Bailey at five-eighth. I'm happy to be corrected on this, but I can't think of any period of play when we have used Gids in the halves in which we have done anything but dominate.

I hope the plan comes together this week, but if it doesn't it's time to give it the flick.

As above. I suspect you're grouping together any combination that doesn't include Dureau. One away loss to a team in red hot form would be a remarkably weak reason for scrapping the Gids in the halves concept given that it's looked terrific thus far.

I know you wouldn't mind seeing Gids in the #7 jumper BG but I don't think thats what Roopy was getting at...I like the role he has currently where he injects himself here and there where he sees it (which is quite regularly) but the main organising and kicking is left to Mullo and Dureau (which seems to largely happen too). Hell that sounds like your average fullbacks role to me, I remember O'Davis being involved when it came to passing and set plays back in his day.

What he's talking about is the 'Mullo only' plan...which after being at the game last week I feel comfortable with, where Bedsy, Gidley and Mullo run the show, the only drawback being that all the kicking is left up to Mullo. This can turn us into a bit of a Manly where everyone in the defence focusses on the man in the #7.

Gids has played in the halves in attack (mostly in a five-eighth role) a lot in the past month or so and we've done well whether he's been paired with Mullo or Scott. Actually worked great with Scott against Souths. We also had a good win against the Roosters earlier in the season when Gids officially played half inside Bailey--despite the fact that we had no kicking game whatsoever.

Personally, because of the kicking game I'd be picking Dureau at the moment. But I think the dual fullback/five-eighth role Gids has been playing has been effective thus far so I don't think we should write it off entirely if we lose tomorrow. Roops asserted that it has cost us a few games and my point was that I can't think of when that has been the case.

When we only play one halfback and Gids in a dual role it is different to when he does his "rover" thing. Mainly in that instead of injecting himself every now and then he becomes a chief playmaker and gets his hands on the ball a lot more often at first or second receiver. This is why people are concerned about it, because he was never any good at it in the past. Smith spoke about this at a press conference about a month or so ago and was adamant that Gids has improved out of sight in this regard. What we've been seeing from him lately suggests this is true. Whether he has the right kind of game to do it long term I'm not claiming to know, but I don't think we should completely abandon the idea if we happen to lose tomorrow.

Yep, I think we can put together a solid argument that Karma is a stalker.

May also fit into the catergory of Obsessive Compulsive....

I think the Dureau obsession is taking the focus away from the Wicks debacle....

Oh no, I'm just warming up for Danny Wicks.

I'm just waiting for the stats from Sunday game to come out before ripping in there at our Supercoach ( in his own mind ).

There is only one Supercoach in Newcastle and its not Smith - its Gary Van Egmond.

I believe his SMS bill isn't quite as expensive either.

You really need to find a hobby....acutally I can't understand why you are not coaching in the NRL or Super League???

I saw nothing 'super' about how the Jets were coached on Friday night.

Too busy keeping you entertained Cram to do that... ;-)

You only wish you were keeping me entertained. I think the only person you are entertaining is your own ego.

Initially I found your posts interesting but that soon wore off.

Here's some starter material for you...I just got a quick glimpse of Wicks on the pre-game show and he looks even bigger than the last time he played. Honestly looks like his jersey is struggling to hold in his gut now...

What a fabulous idea to rest Dureau from this game. He may not have made that much of a difference, but at least our kicking game would have been better because we would have had two options.
