If Bennett does finish at the Broncos this year there will be a bit of uncertainty there. Our recruitment seems to have been pretty slick which shows that Doust is not too involved.
Perhaps Coyne and Millward are involved.
Bennett signed on for another 2 years . He is there until the end of 2019 with JD as his assistant until then . Maybe JD does a one year apprenticeship under Bennett then comes back as head coach and brings Hunt with him . I know JD and Matt Head get along great and have similar ideas . Wouldn't be the worst idea to have them as coach and assistant coach in 2018 .

Let's put this in perspective. Benny happily let Ash Taylor walk out the door because he had his long term 1/2 in HUNT. He drops one ball in a GF & all of a sudden no-one at Brisbane rate him anymore? Puhhlease

Will we (if we get him) get value for money? I don't know, on the balance of probability, maybe.

By virtue the fact we don't have a quality 1/2 means we have to pay more than market value to secure this rare commodity (better quality 1/2).

There are very few decent 1/2's available, coupled with the pending increase in the salary cap, those decent 1/2's worth is higher than it's ever been. 700k-1 mill will be the norm in 5 years time for almost every starting1/2.

I really hope JD is the man to replace McWreckor. He will learn some off-season tips and Man management skills from Bennett and the rest he already knows with his proven record. His resume is more impressive than other rookies that started in the NRL.

I am starting to think that McWreckor/Young and Hornby may be the problem and with JD, Head and someone else their may be better direction. Hornby often loved to spray his players on the field when they made an error in his day. I think RObbie Farrar once mentioned it in an article a few years ago. Probably does it deluxe as coach.

Sometimes a good spray is exactly what's required, and I think something that was missing from both Creagh's & Widdop's time as captain.

The only Hornby spray I vividly remember was at Mitch Rein vs Roosters, and the dope deserved it at the time (didn't learn from it either).

Everything's been too nice and polite lately at the Dragons - I'd suggest that a team that has only limped into the finals once since 2011 needs a good spray.

Paid overs but like when parra did same with sandow had to take a chance.
Hunts at worse a solid half and worth 600k. Look at a bust like t rex at dogs for 650k. And hunt does have pote tial to be worth every cent.

Hunt Signing Official

The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced the signing of halfback Ben Hunt, who will join the Club in 2018 on a five-year deal following today's completion of all official documentation.

The Australian Test representative, Hunt, 26, will join the Dragons from the Brisbane Broncos at the completion of the upcoming NRL season.

A former Dally M Under 20s Player of the Year, Hunt has played 166 NRL games to date since his 2009 debut.

St George Illawarra Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward said Hunt's signature was crucial for the Red V moving forward.

"We were looking for a really competent, world-class halfback. It was about signing someone who has been a regular halfback and who has played at the highest level," Millward said.

"Ben's also a good family man and quite composed as a person. The Red V fans should be over the moon."

Millward said however the club's immediate focus remains on the upcoming 2017 season.

"Ben's made a massive commitment to the Dragons but he also has a season to go with the Broncos," Millward said.

"It's important he has a great season with the Broncos, and it's important we have a great season with the personnel we currently have."

Millward said the Club remained focused on player retention across the board - from junior representative teams to the NRL.

"We're still very active internally as well," Millward said.

"I don't want to speculate on specific names at present because we're in negotiations but we are progressing well."

Very good news.
Who gives a shit how much he cost. He runs straight and has an excellent step.
Now let's get Bird back home and next year is looking good.
Out the door Nighty and Widdop next year to help balance the books.
