I still say let’s see what pans out?

Ben has always presented as a sensible and measured in commentary type guy.

It does seem very strange that he wants to renege on his contract only recently signed? After all it’s very good coin and only a further two years, not a long prison sentence?

If this is ‘all true’ it would appear someone has got in his ear very recently. By the way, he has been playing very well since Hook left and we have won a few games also.

Personally I think he owes St George and he should stay, but do you really want a player that doesn't want to be there. As for Challenge it's a joke with Willow haven't seen Superman 2 ?
Payne Haas wanted out of the donkeys. The donkeys said no, and Haas accepted the decision and is currently in career best form. This shows that a professional player can still perform even if they want out. Whether Hunt can show the professionalism of Haas remains to be seen.

I have seen Superman 2, but it was a very long time ago.

From everything ive read so far, most of his problem is with the board and the running of the club. As far as he goes, to me now he is a zero and i never want to hear about him again. However if he ever plays at Kogarah against us, i wouldnt let up all match. And im sure all Dragons supporters will do the same.
But onto the main problem- we knew we had a board problem getting a new coach and it finally settled. However when our best player and captain wants to go because of the board, then surely finally someone on the board has to step up and start a board replacement. This surely now cant be allowed to continue. If ever there was a sign that our club is stuffed- this is it. We need a complete new board and now
Nothing else will do
I've suspected for a long time that Hunt himself is the main problem at the club. He's exceeding my expectations.

So Hunt doesn't just want to walk out on his next contract, he doesn't want to complete his current contract either.
How does a player pull out mid-season if an offer hasn't been made by a rival club.

By all accounts from his team mates, Ben is very tight with his money.
I think its time for the NRL to look into this and back up there rules with some enforcement...there must have been some serious in depth discussions from either the Titans, Chooks, or Bulldogs.
NRL HQ have been too quiet over these types of occurences.

Some NRL support from the NRL in the form of extra cap allowance to enable the Dragons to sit him out for 2 years would also get the message across.
I would do anything possible to stop him playing elsewhere as all his excuses are bogus....successful club, moving back home, tired of a rebuilding roster, ...all crap.

I believe that Ben Hunt is a fabulous class player. The only one in our current team.

Many comments on the Hunt situation are driven by our disappointment that this has arisen after signing an experienced premiership winning coach for the next 3 years.

I have questioned the capacity of some of our BOD, management and recruitment personnel, like many others here on the forum.Other teams just seem to identify and sign up good players. For some reason we haven’t for many years. Our 2018 team was the last good team we put on the park.

Like it or not, Ben Hunt is probably sick of carrying an ordinary team week in and week out. Most of our team are trying hard. Players I believe are simply ordinary like Blocker, Lomax ( examples of players continued to be signed over many seasons) give their all but can not rise further, other than a rare flash of great play. Haven’t seen a junior excelling for years. Of the current crop Sullivan definitely on the upwards but Amone and Sloan I question.

Lets see what may eventuate with Ben Hunt in the short term. Boy , Flano has a massive task ahead.
I am sick of hearing Hunt is our best player and has carried the team. Just getting your hands on the ball more than anyone else doesnt mean you're good. What exactly has he done thats so wonderful,

-he's on a million bucks a year or close enough
-has one of the highest missed tackles of any half
-is captain, but cannot talk to the refs when we are copping it or rally the troops
-seems to have actively sabotaged the progress of Sullivan
-refuses to play in any position he has decided he doesnt like regardless of whether it is best for the tem
-is a terrible game manager
-has a poor short kicking game
-cant kick a field goal
-stifles the attack and chews up tackles when we are attacking with slow forward settlers
-never gets the backline quick early ball
-has been at the club getting his way and we are now battling to not get the wooden spoon

I was against resigning him and I still stand by that. We need a half who can guide the team not insist on the ball going to him every play. We need a half who knows how to alter the tempo of the game to suit his team.

Is this Sullivan? I dont know, he seems like he may be able to do it but until he is given the reins for a decent period and allowed to play his game we will never know.

Dont roll over and let Hunt go, help him go so long as which ever club is agitating and orchestrating this pays SGI to the point of pain. If Hunt thinks he can pay a bit, even $250,000 thats nowhere near enough.

So, if he wants a release and want to go to a winning club. Who has the cap space?

If a top 8 or even a top 4 side get him, they'll be a very good side, regardless of who they currently have.

Update: Roosters clearing the decks with Lodge allowed to leave immediately. What's the market paying for a Roosters revival in 2024?

Challenge you on what?

For making an observation that some of Hunt's teammates don't like the guy after he signed a contract worth a few million dollars only a few months ago, and now he's publicly stating that he wants out following the sacking of his mate Hook, who was a roadblock to the development of many of the current players?
Pretty sure he signed on for the two more years for $750,000 per season
