LATEST: Congratulations to Des Hasler - and the @GCTitans They are serious about trying to win a comp. Justin Holbrook was told at 9.30am he was no longer head coach. Brutal game. I believe it was a 10 day negotiation done on the quiet. @9NewsSyd @NRLonNine

Of course Danny Weasel and probably Fox supports the Titans management on this move patting them on the back for giving a bloke no notice and no feedback his job was in jeopardy..apparently, saying that is the brutal business of RL
Told you Des loves flying under the radar
If we had done that to say Hook no doubt we would of been a basket case and poorly run club and all our players want releases.. just saying

Just read about Dessie appointment at Titans and alleged exit Holbrook negotiations being conducted for the past 10 days. If true, it seems that Ben Hunt has probably been aware of the Dessie matter; as his sudden request for real ease has been in that timeframe. It certainly has an extra smell about it now. It explains why Ben basically happy to stay 8 months ago on a top coin contract with us, now all sorts of reasons to ‘head home’.

It is very disappointing. Also if true, why not be upfront and tell it like it is; that is I’ve got 2 to 3 years left, no extra big name signing (s) have occurred here at Dragons and Titans have a top roster with Tino, Sami, Brimson, Fifita and so on?
I agree I thought exactely the same when I found out the Titans news this evening ..........now after resigning with us what 8 months ago till end of season 2025 even though hes been here for what 5 years all of a sudden hes homesick for Qld and family and wants an immediate out......and surprise surprise Hasler has been appointed coach of the Titans for 3 years ......this just doesnt have an xtra smell about it its a pungent odour from a very big garbage tip

I hate these swap deals we end up getting players that don’t want to come to the Dragons. I’d rather a shitload of cash to go out and buy someone decent who wants to be here
Agreed - except I would go after Salary Cap as opposed to cash... whoever gets Hunt pays for one of our players under their Salary Cap (and releases that player back to us). I have said elsewhere I think a figure of $250K per season for the two seasons ($500K) is more than fair as this will throw our Recruitment into mayhem. All our plans were around Hunt being here for at least two more seasons. We do have up our sleeve that two clubs (Bulldogs and GC) have been talking to Hunt about next year as stated by Hunt in TV interviews. The NRL have already reminded Hunt's management of anti-tampering rules and asked him to remind Ben. Without our release Ben will be going no where.
I would wait and see how Hunt plays Friday night... he hasn't looked like a player who is stressed so far this season and l suspect that he may still play with integrity... if so Flanno 'may' be able to talk him around. Finding another captain in our squad is hard... which should be our first priority now.

It is not that easy I'm afraid. Whilst it is a contract, it is an employment contract, and at law, it is well established you cannot force an employee to do something as basically that is considered slavery (for want of a better term). So you would not get any damages awarded against him, nor any orders forcing him to play. If though he refuses to play, the dragons would be well within its rights to not pay him as (assuming that is part of his contract) that is where he has breached it. Additionally, if he attempted to play another professional sport, or with another NRL/SL club, the Dragons would be able to get an injunction preventing it.

On matters like this, employment law takes precedence over straight contract law.
Hey arent you a Roosters supporter?

Two years left, two years left
Two years left, two years left

Two years left, two years left
Want to walk out with two years left
Of the club, what a captain
Yes you're a coward, so please f**k off
And keep texting to buzz that line
Can you game manage for just one time?
And it's your name that's on that contract
So call your agent and I'll call you a cab

After Hook gets the arse
Saying the management are fools
Talking 'bout how you can't do another rebuild
You're so full of shit

You just want more money
You just want more money
I can have another halfback in a minute
Who can win it in the last minute, Benny

You just want more money
You just want more money
I could have Bud in here by tomorrow
He can kick field goals

Well perhaps you gentlemen from the Wollongong region could tell me whether you have good weather down there at the ‘gong ?

I always thought that the sun was shining and those lovely beaches up that way would be great for a family - at least until Benny the ‘ highway man ‘ saw out his contract . ☀️ 🏄🏼‍♂️ 🏊‍♂️ 🏖

So Benny says the place is a shambles and he wants out.

nrl calls and reminds him about the rules around contracts.

Benny suddenly recalls he and his missus are homesick 🤣
Yep and playing the family trump card in the media immediately puts pressure straight back on the club as the bad man for not letting go home and be with family. So its done he will go
4 things for me

1. Was not homesick last October when signing
2. What is the point of Flanno sitting down with him now, he has timed the trump card before his meeting so what can Flanno and the club promise to take the homesick feeling away (training on his own up there and come down to the Gong on the weekend or wherever we play perhaps)
3. What is the hurry he could at least wait till September when we finish our year
4. Non-recruitment drive. Is hook partly to blame in respect did he let Benny down too?

1. Correct.
2. To show the club needs to be seen as doing something to keep him. Will probably end up a charade with the outcome that he would love to stay but family comes first. It ends up allowing both parties to part with some dignity, although I'm sure hoops-the-wit will use the term "basket case" irrespective of the outcome.
3. He'll probably see out the year.
4. Hook's mere presence is the main factor for the non-recruitment drive. He only recruited older players who were either journeymen or Queenslanders whose best days were long past. After his shenanigans at the riff, there is no way anyone of quality was coming here, unless we paid massive overs.
