What the f*ck is wrong with people in our sport. Just watched a few of the reactions on Fox Sports News and I can't believe the sh*t being said.

We had all the AFL wankers praising the move which you would expect.

We then have Des Hasler, coach of the premiers making it out like this is a huge blow to our game. He then says this has given 14-15 year old rugby league players a new option in their careers and could have a major impact on Rugby League in western Sydney if an AFL team starts there.

Why the hell would you give them more ammunition? Why wouldn't you just laugh it off as the huge publicity stunt it is? Why wouldn't you call their game out for being so sh*t that any athlete could succeed in it? It's about time some of the people running our game grew some balls.

very very disappointed in the cutie for this.. not because he is dogging Brizzy, QLD and Australia.. but he is assisting that other f*kn code

i hope he succeeds and owns fumbleball.. but i don't want him back tbh

i've always found that he's been an overrated player anyway [despite what his remu may suggest] .. without lockyer and the broncs set plays, he's done nothing tbh...

Name your list of players who have won origins, played tests, won premierships and played over 100 first grade games by the age of 22. It should be interesting. If someone can do all of these things just because of the people around them, then theres something seriously wrong with our game wouldnt you think? As soon as any young player achieves anything in our game there is always some dickhead know it all to pull them down and say there overrated. And we start to wonder why theres all these players leaving rugby league for other codes.

As a Broncos fan im dissapointed hes leaving but not dissapointed in him.

Your just an idiot. Dissapointed in hunt? I didnt know he had to make his career decision to make you or any other league fan happy.

u know everyone was all the sky is falling when SBW and Gaz left, but it hasn't affected us in the slightest. and Hunt is a far less talented player than those two.

nothing will kill league. ever. if anything this sorta bullsh*t just makes us all more determined to support the only code that actually matters.

im thinking i may write an angry post on Errol about this *shakes fist*

Its this kind of stupid laugh it off attitude from administrators of the game that has seen rugby league hardly move anywhere since 1908. Now we have a bunch of Sydney clubs posting million dollars losses with uncertain long term futures while other codes push forward into western sydney. Not to mention after 101 years having a truly national competition is still a pipe dream made harder now by other codes pushing into potential expansion areas for league.

I dont think Rugby League has anything to laugh off. AFL might be a sh*t sport but they pull crowds to some club games that we do to finals games.

Hunt switch no cause for panic: NRL boss

By Ed Jackson AAP Wed, 29 Jul 2009 14:53:53
Karmichael Hunt's switch to Australian Rules "doesn't mean the sky is falling" on rugby league, says NRL boss David Gallop.
Gallop says Hunt's decision to switch codes to league' major football rival Australian Rules with new AFL franchise Gold Coast was not a reflection on any deep problems within rugby league.
"Karmichael has been looking for a change for some time and we wish him luck in finding what he is looking for," said Gallop in a statement as he headed to Singapore for a three-day meeting of international rugby league powerbrokers.
"This is an individual decision, the sky is not falling - only a week ago we had (Wallaby centre) Timana Tahu coming back to rugby league."
He contrasted Hunt's exit from the game with the sensational sudden departure of Bulldogs star Sonny Bill Williams last season early in his contract for a lucrative offer in French rugby union.
And he played down the obvious PR benefit the AFL will glean as it hones in on the fiercely contested Gold Coast sporting market where the NRL's Gold Coast Titans currently reign.
"Karmichael hasn't walked out on a contract," Gallop said.
"He hasn't deserted teammates and we would welcome him back in the future.
"Rugby league is in a very strong position in many areas, Queensland and the Gold Coast in particular, and I am sure that we will maintain and grow that strength regardless of this announcement."
Meanwhile, Manly coach Des Hasler says the AFL's capture of Hunt should serve as a serious warning to rugby league.
The NRL premiership-winning coach said Hunt's decision to switch codes could open the doors to more players joining the AFL if the Queensland State of Origin star's move is a success.
And with the AFL planning to launch a new team into the traditional rugby league heartland of Sydney's western suburbs, Hasler said Wednesday's news had lit the fuse for red-hot battle between the rival codes.
"Here's another career path for aspiring league players," Hasler said.
"Given that Sydney has a four-and-a-half to five-million population, the outer west, where if another AFL side is commissioned there, it just puts pressure... on our code, particularly as far as recruitment is concerned.
"Sydney's only going to grow west, just the population and the number of young players that are out there, that are looking for a career path in sport. It's just another code to which you can aspire."
Hasler said Hunt was undoubtedly one of the most exciting players in the NRL and the AFL's decision to make a play for such a high-profile star meant it was game on between the rival football codes.
"It's a real battle of the codes," Hasler said.
"It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
"There's been some talk in the papers of an NRL commission. I hope that's not too late because there needs to be some clear goals or definite outlines on what they're trying do as far as recruitment and keeping young players interested.
"Maybe it's time to look at places like Adelaide, look at places like Perth. I just think now, with this (Hunt's signing), that it is well and truly gloves off."

Just watching Channel 10 now. I remember the out cry over Craig Wing being paraded around infront of an oppositions sponsors. I wonder if the Broncos will react.

btw theres no way an AFL player could ever play in the NRL. one tackle and they would limp off crying.

not according to AFL scribes. link is dead but this was the article http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,19687863-23214,00.html

Beating league players at own game
By Robert Shaw
July 5, 2006 Fox Sports

WE have seen a cross-pollination from the two rugby codes, but no players have moved directly from the NRL to the AFL or vice versa.

In my mind, there is no doubt, given time and education, that AFL players far exceed their northern neighbours in the capacity to not only change codes but improve rugby league.

Here's how they could achieve an overall advantage.

Using superior aerobic capacity from players in all positions, the AFL team could sustain a higher intensity for longer.

The kicking skills of all players (not just selective kickers) would enable attacking launches from any point of the field where the AFL boys would control territory through precise accuracy.

The kicking game across the field to a wing would destroy the small rugby league fullbacks, with the AFL men controlling the air with their aerial skills. Constant aerial and kicking skills would be enough to keep the league boys on the back foot for 70 minutes.

Superior running skills, especially of our big men, would create more attacking options out wide.

And with the concept of "total football" the AFL players would have greater versatility in positioning.

Ball-handling skills across the players would enable the ball to be transferred through the hands of all, making a more expansive game plan possible.

Our second rowers and props could constantly adjust their positions due to their ball handling skills.
After the six-tackle count, the kicking could be done by any player due to the two-sided kicking skills of all players making defence against the kicking game difficult.

The similarities of AFL players would enable them to rotate positions constantly. AFL men are used to this and tactically it would be an edge.

They could also rotate players better through high demand positions to maintain intensity.

Any lack of size of AFL players would be nullified by increasing the intensity and running demands of the game through quick ball and hand movement.

Kicking effectively for touch or after penalties would decrease attacking distance for the AFL and increase it for league when they are in attack.

League players would counter strongly with their front-on assault and tackle count.

It is not unusual for a NRL player to make 30-35 full-on, front-on, tackles in a game; if an AFL player has eight tackles, he's been outstanding.

The league players have a lower centre of gravity and good pace so their ability to evade tackles, and lay off a punishing ball to their centres, would be critical.

AFL players would have great difficulty controlling this phase. The injection of players from rugby backgrounds such as Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Jason Akermanis would alleviate this somewhat.

Lower centre of gravity also allows for power in the tackle and the leg drive would be something the AFL players would find very uncomfortable, and they would find laying effective tackles an issue.

So who are our AFL players who could hypothetically convert to rugby league and take on the might of New South Wales or Queensland?

Fullback: Andrew McLeod Wings: Anthony Koutoufides, Matt McGuire Centres: Brendon Goddard, Lewis Roberts-Thomson Five-eighth: Adam Goodes Halfback: James Hird Props: David Hille, Barry Hall Hooker: Luke Ball Second row: Jonathan Brown, Mitch Hahn Lock: Dean Rioli. Interchange: Jason Akermanis, Quinten Lynch, Chris Judd, Brian Harris

I don't know where Hunt is coming from.

He's being offered less to play for the Coast...

It's a weird move to say the least and I'm just shocked.

It will be gloves off on the GC now i assure you, i have nothing for contempt for the guy and the Gaza's. Up until now, i have felt nothing toward the new GC AFL side, i dont follow the sport, dont watch the sport. But to think we are so daft to follow the code, simply becuase they have a RL player in the team, is nothing short of insulting.

Hunt as a person needs to have a long hard look at himself, he turned his back on his country of birth, turned his back on a club that made him what he is today and gave him everything he has, and now not only turns his back on a sport that has looked after him since the age of 15, but sold his soul to the 1 sport, that is trying to wage war against us. He is nothing short of scum, a traitor, judas.

he wasn't being offered anything in League and part of his AFL deal is that he can go and play Jap Union. he will be earning more now than what the Broncos initially offered him before they withdrew it
