Hurrell Gone?

I've made my peace now if he goes.

If he does, clearly he doesn't want it enough. He's worked bloody hard in the off-season and said all the right things. But to turn around after the 1st week when he's not named, when short of Immortal-esque performances in trials he was always going to be in NSW Cup, just proves he's weak under it all. We all know the odds are pretty good he'll play soon if he's going well down there, someone will slip up.

And really, we know we'll never get the best out of him in our less than professional environment. So we let him go, knowing it'll never work.

Just don't say you're going to the Titans to 'play your best footy'. Who's ever done that? Take unders and go to the Storm, or somewhere like that. Otherwise we all know you're just picking up a paycheque.

Yep picking up a pay cheque and (very likely) getting to play FG. Seems like a good career decision at his age, not sure how it makes him 'weak'

Weak was the wrong word to use. However, all that talk he was offering in the off-season, only to split to the Titans after not being named in the round one side...pretty hollow, to me. Won't say weak but it says to me he wasn't overly fussed about being a Warrior, he just wants to play football, get paid pretty well, not win anything and not fulfil his potential. That's fine. It's his life. I'm happy not having that at Mt Smart.

To be honest, I wouldn't be sad if he goes.
Not saying I don't like him, or that he doesn't have the potential to do it.

But he's always a question mark, there will always be that question mark if his attitude is there, or if his D will be upto it, can he play the full 80 or every off-season wondering what shape he'll be back in.
Kinda like how after Manu drops a bomb and they target him again, you're never 100% sure he will make amends.

If he goes, I do hope he does well (except against us of course).
Considering we have Fusitua, Allwood and Wright also in reserves waiting their chance, we do have adequate back up should we get injuries or a slump in form.

"I want the club to keep the faith in me," Hurrell said at the Warriors squad announcement for the Nines.

"I have trained my arse off this preseason so the boys feel safe when I am on the field. I know I have to prove myself and I am looking for a big turnaround."

Just leave it here in case he goes.

Wanting to leave so he gets the opportunity to play FG can just as easily be looked at as him wanting to fulfil his potential. If he feels he put in during the offseason and McFadden still doesn't deem it good enough, but there is another club out there that wants him and will give him the opportunity to do so, all power to him, especially if the Warriors will be seeing salary cap relief no doubt and be agreeing to it so it's not like he is trying to do them a diservice.

Yeah, if that's how you see it - it's a possibility. Myself, and a few others no doubt will see it as he thought one decent off-season was a golden ticket to play round one. League doesn't work that way, he needed to show it on-field, he hasn't yet. As I say, I'm fine with him going. I'm sad to say that, I like the guy. I just wish he and our coaches had got the best out of him.

Hurrell goes to another club he becomes a superstar. How good is Halvili looking now at the Dragons!. If we never knew he was at the Warriors before and we signed him off those performances us fans would be clapping to have secured him.

Lolohea would be a hot signing for any other NRL club, Kata as well. They are getting rubbished at the warriors. They leave and they make it.

Warriors no longer know the art of player development. And in fact I think the Warriors are only in business by the fluke they are New Zealand's only NRL side. Thats pretty much guaranteed money.

20+ years and only 5 finals appearances. That is not a glamour club - thats bullshit.

Part of it is just that (some, and not saying you Penrose) league/sports fans are still stuck in the antiquated mindset that players should have loyalty to their club or owe them something extra.

Why is it an antiquated mindset?
Surely it is part of the relationship between employer and employee that the player owes loyalty to the entity that is paying him.

Money and career progression trumps 'loyalty' to an employer in all walks of life.

In this case it would be a good deal for both parties, Hurrell gets to go somewhere to play FG regularly which is good for his future career, Warriors get out of a contract that would be hugely overpaying for a guy that their coaches don't deem up to being a regular first grader. Hurrell doesn't owe turning down good career moves like that to the Warriors especially when they are also benefiting. Just as a club shouldn't cop grief if they try to unload players.

Just look at the last offseason for example, clubs are gonna try unload contracted players once a upgrade becomes available.

Players are assets, commodities, tools of leverage. Their stocks rise and their stocks fall. Clubs can be quick to dump and get rid of players with no sense of loyality.

Warriors are cursed since they treated Ali Lauititi like they did. Nice he is back now at 36 years old but unfortunately that wont get the karma monkey off your back Eric - Karma is a bitch and it will ride you into the ground. Soon as Eric Watson sells the club all will be right again.

Karma monkey?
Hard work and attitude trump it every day of the week.
We are supposed to be professionals. You turn up and do what you are paid to do. Anything less is going to bite you in the ass.
As a lot of players are going to find out when their contracts run out and Uncle Ivan isn't there to bail them out.

Yeah, that's definitely not my view. Players have loyalty to their families and themselves in the first instance, then anything the club provides them in loyalty you probably ask in return.

My issue is that Konrad made all those noises in pre-season, saying he wanted the club to trust in him, that he was going to prove himself and he hasn't. It doesn't provide me with any anger at him personally and I'd say good luck at the Titans/wherever, but as I say it has led me to be comfortable if/when he goes.

I actually think players like Konnie do owe the club, they discovered him and coached him into what he is today, and I'd expect him to show a bit of loyalty in return.

I dont really know what all the noise is from Surfers and Brisbane, but until Doyle and Konnie himself say he's going,, he is still a Warrior who is set on playing FG.

I think he's been a scapegoat for a while and I don't think he owes the Warriors anything.

not sure he's a scapegoat, he's largely been rubbish - Kata has been more rubbish and has a mortgage on a centre spot which is flat out bizarre...

I don't think he's been rubbish. He's had bad moments. And he's had bad games. But I spent much of last year bemused at why he was running around in the NSW cup behind Kata and thought he looked pretty good in FG, all things considered.
