maybe 250k is the figure he would have stayed at Saints for - ie - heaps more than he would want from a club going somewhere.

if we are out of money to spend on transfer players so be it....but if we are out of money for transfers and re-signings ill be very un happy we really need abes and a few other to stay

On a side note even though i believe Amos Roberts is going to Penrith but id love to have him here

1.Kidley
2.Amos Roberts/Wes
3.Wes/Jimmy Mac
4.Jimmy Mac/Wes
5.Akuila Uate (If Ready By then)
6.Jarrod Mullen
7.Luke Walsh Or Scotty D
That serious looks like a good backline from my eyes for next year

Inexperience In Walshy,Macca and Aku
Experience in Kids,Mullz,Amos,Wes
Alot Of flare With Kids,Aku and Amos

would be well worth the money if we could get Roberts i think

I reckon we have done all the recruiting from outside the club that needs to be done. If we have money I reckon we should throw it at Civo and not Roberts. Retention of Abes and a few others and we should be sweet.

Next year we should sign a marquee player and in 09 we are going to need to have some $$$ to keep Patto Seu Seu Tolar and Mullen among others. We can't break the bank now cuz we too much talent to keep in the future.

point taken - but I dont believe him.

I still believe either

a) Wicks (or his manager) is blowing smoke up Doust's ar$e;
b) Doust is blowing smoke up everyone's ars$; or
c) a combination of a) and b).

I simply refuse to believe anyone would pay 250k for a fat fringe first grader - even one that (with the right coaching and a positive environment) could be a star.

IMO its just a reflection on the lack of quality props in the competition thanks to the addition of GC and the drain to the UK. The top shelf props are now demanding 400-450K and the values of the lower tier props have all shot up. I am guessing that Smith sees big things in the future for Wicks and decided that 250K now will be a bargain by the end of his contract.

I'm pretty happy with the players we've bought, Especially Houston as for any other signings, Smith was quoted in the paper the other day as saying he is still looking for another quality centre.

Really?

He said he thought we had centres already covered for next year and that we won't be signing any centres in the media conference this week.

Maybe he's got something up his sleeve...

I daresay we have shown intrest in him, but would be hard to compete for him when he can play with the All Blacks and go back home in New Zealand.

Said in today's Newy Herald that Smith is chasing another forward and another outside back, so he's not finished shopping just yet ;-)

logic would dictate that the best signings we make will also be our last.. as they'd be the signings that we really have to compete for..

still hopeful of a big signing.. i don't see how all that money could have gone on the players we've signed.

There is no way he can crack the All Blacks. He may get an experimental game or two, but he will never become a permanent fixture in their line-up. As good a player as Whatuira is, I don't see him unseating the likes of Muliaina, Sivivatu, Howlett, Toeava.

Ma'a Nonu can't even get himself a permanent starting spot.

Well if we did play around 400k for Cross that is garbage. He is not worth 400k, that is disgusting if we did. That doesnt even compare to the 240k or seomthing we paid for Ryeno...
