Warner actually has a very good test record, he's just badly out of form atm, and Broad absolutely has worked him out.
21 centuries and 30 50's as an opener. Test average of about 46.

Zero of those 21 centuries in England and only 6 of them outside Australia though.

And three of those 6 came in South Africa, the closest tour you can get to home conditions.

Much like Hayden he's very, very good in hometown conditions or on a flat wicket. Unlike Hayden he can't even sweep, though, so he's cooked in subcontinental conditions too.

Yeh, I agree. But it's still not a bad record, and I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a better, more consistent opener to choose in his place in the meantime.

He's had a shit series no doubt. Pathetic actually. However, I didn't hear anyone calling for him not to be selected for the test series before the series started, nor anyone who predicted this lack of form, particularly after his very successful World Cup. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There were actually quite a few in the cricket forum saying they wouldn't pick him, tbh.

Anyway opener is an issue regardless but I'm still stunned they dropped Joe Burns after 180 in his last test match and rushed back a bloke who has never scored a test hundred in England and a bloke who has never scored a test hundred. Warner or not that partnership was destined to fail more often than not.

Lol, the cricket forum experts. I don't read it, mainly due to lack of time. I'd love to see some of those posts.
Anyway, I also agree that the Joe Burns dropping was a bit weird, but his form leading up to that non-selection wasn't actually that great. Reactionary rather than showing solidity by the selectors? Who knows?

I think you are actually simplifying things too much and once again relying on hindsight. This isn't a criticism of your opinions btw, I'm just saying that before this series started, there wasn't too many who would not have selected Warner as one of our test openers. Obviously, on current form, many have changed their opinion. I'm almost there.

Warner will come good. Gotta say that he could do better with his body language when he gets out. Showing some genuine disappointment rather than smiling to me suggests he lacks focus, determination and is being distracted by peripheral sledging.

Why is he smiling to you? Something you'd like to tell us?

I would now drop him.
Recall Usman. Him or Labuschagne to open with Harris.

To come good he would have had to have ever been good overseas.

We play horses for courses bowlers, should do the same with bats. He'll clown runs on home made roads and next tour it'll be same old three centuries in foreign conditions Davey.

Uzi is similar. Two of the first picked at home, would seriously consider not bothering to take them OS

Warner averages 60+ in South Africa, Bangladesh and the UAE. It's not a simple home-away thing, it's some away venues / pitch conditions / bowlers that he has a problem with.

Lol Bangladesh. He's played two matches against giants of the bowling world like Mashrafe Mortaza. Same number as the UAE. Both nations produce lifeless decks aimed at spinning late.

I specifically mentioned South Africa, the closest international conditions to Australia. He is genuine bona fide gash on anything other than "home" conditions. He averages 26 against the might of the modern West Indies lmao.

South African pitches help the quicks a lot more regularly that ours do.

And he averaged 46 in the 2015 Ashes in England.

Yeah. And despite that one series he averages 27 without having ever scored an English hundred.

SA is still by far the nearest to Aussie conditions you can get without being here and it's no shock he's done well there. He's a big time flat track bully no matter which short term stats you wanna cherry-pick.

The long run comprises lots of short runs. Prior to the current series he averaged 37 away from home, across 66 innings. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to get you sacked when you're doing ok at home. But as I said above.....he's currently shot.
