I don't think too many Test openers would have played that ball that Burns got, without getting dismissed...it was a beauty.

How appaulling are the cricket crowds this year ... Tests and BBL

Infact most sports look to be struggling with crowds ... NBL crowds are up but they started from a crap base

80,473 at the MCG yesterday is decent. The Pakistan crowds were poor because they are shit. I think for the good teams - England, SA, India and prob NZ test cricket will still pull decent crowds.

I don’t watch the BBL so cant really comment.

The bloke averages 40 in a rest career where I don't think he's played more than about seven tests in a row ever... He can play

OK, my last word on Burns as my opinion is no secret

he may average 40 but only because of the runs he makes here in Oz, he average is 12 in England and 24 overseas all up which for me is about right

we would do better to play him in the middle order if we want a home specialist as his footwork against the new ball is non existent, his front foot takes half a step forward no matter where the ball is bowled which is why he has that huge gap between bat and pad, he is not an opening batsmen for mine

the end

That's a really interesting stat Twiz. Especially given Burns has never played a single Test in England...

http://www.howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerCountries.asp?PlayerID=4369

And FTR he averages 35 away, in 5 whole Test matches. Hardly enough of a sample to discard the guy.

Interestingly he averages 78 in NZ, where the ball does swing. Small sample size though and he did get a big hundred on a flat deck after seeing the new ball off.

His versatility is another advantage, if anything. I like him as an opener but I think he'd do quite well at 5 in place of Wade. The problem is there is no one else even half as good as him to open at the moment. Bancroft and Harris are terrible.

I got that from Howstat as well, said his average was 12, although I never use, maybe my mistake,

So he's never played in England ? I wonder why

I'd have him at 5 before Wade but thats not saying much, if these Kiwis attacked him with short balls like they did with Wade they'd get belted, he does play the short ball well

What do they play when Wagner comes on to bowl? Die Walkure, Gotterdammerung or Tristan und Isolde?

I mean I don't know when he went veggo to be fair. But I would say before, he used to disgrace the test match whites with the wobble of his manmaries as he ran in to bowl
From memory I think he was playing tests before he went veggo. But geez, we just got a side boob shot. I'm not sure it was always that bad. Not that I was paying close attention of course.
