So, does Davey deserve the big 'heroes' send off series?
My contention is that he was the main driver behind the sandpaper episode. I think he became so enraged by what De Kock said to him during that Test and it pushed him over the edge to the point that he wanted to win and embarrass the Saffers so bad that he lost all semblance of rationality. I think he weasled his way out of it somewhat and put on some crocodile tears in the aftermath. For these reasons I think he's a pretty flawed character and doesn't really deserve a heroes send off. When you couple that with his Test form, I guess the answer to your question is a simple No.... Sorry it took so long to get to that answer lol....So, does Davey deserve the big 'heroes' send off series?
His 2023 average shows he's past it. I reckon there's a push to give him a send off regardless of his scores before the SCG Test match. Fine cricketer that he is, he will always have that sandpapergate shackle hanging around his neck. Same goes with Smith. He deserves to be selected on merit, just like anyone else.
He has certainly done some dick things over the course of his career. My contention is that he was the main driver behind the sandpaper episode. Fair call, I think that a lot of merkins feel the same way. Mitch Johnson took a decent swipe at him as well. Some things don't go away. I will forever be embarrassed by the underarm delivery against the Kiwis, the sandpaper issue is in the same boat. I know there's a lot of infamous incidents by other players but I'm not going to expand too far on that - just to keep it tight. My contention is that he was the main driver behind the sandpaper episode. Since at least 1981They both did their time, and yes, Sandpapergate will hang over their necks for as long as they are alive. That is on them and yes, they deserve it.
How long do we hold a grudge?

Nobody is perfect, we all know that old chestnut. But considering the training and advisory counseling that these elite players have access to then the average merkin on the street has to question things when these nuffies do the wrong thing. Besides, I like to have a good old whinge at times.I'm still embarrassed by the underarm debacle (yes, after all these decades) and more recently, the sandpaper incident. Shameful episodes in Australian cricket.
Yet, at some stage, we just need to move on. Or so I believe.
I'm more a person who holds the view of forgiveness, eventually. I don't like to hold a grudge if I can see that the perpetrators have grown as people and learnt from their errors of the past.
I'm absolutely sure that WE aren't all perfect either, and have made decisions or mistakes in the past that we regret.
I sure have.
Hence, I find it difficult to be so judgmental of others, most particularly those that are in the public spotlight.

Mitchell Johnson is a dope and an emotional sook probably jealous this current side reached the heights he wasnt able to do during his era.Fair call, I think that a lot of merkins feel the same way. Yeah I can only imagine what sort of bowler he could have been if he showed as much fire and conviction consistently throughout his career as he has shown in his columns so far!!!Mitchell Johnson is a dope and an emotional sook probably jealous this current side reached the heights he wasnt able to do during his era.
He admitted during the week his article was personal on Warner. He called Pat Cummins gutless last year after Langer got sacked. Did he ever apologise to Pat.
Look at Mitch during his career how many times did he lose the plot as a player.
Outside of 1 golden summer against the Poms he was on and off during his career.
Now seems like a bitter twisted individual trying to stay relevant.
Besides getting a little too personal i didn't have a massive problem with what Johnson said, my biggest problem was who it came from.Mitchell Johnson is a dope and an emotional sook probably jealous this current side reached the heights he wasnt able to do during his era.

Yeah cupboard is bare if pucovski was fit and mentally ready for test cricket warner wouldn't be there.Besides getting a little too personal i didn't have a massive problem with what Johnson said, my biggest problem was who it came from.
Johnson was one of the biggest sooks to play for Aus and had to have his hand held for the majority of his playing career. How many times was he brought back on to clean up the tail after bowling shite to lift his self esteem by Ponting after the other quicks had done all the hard work??? This is the dope who refused to do some homework asked by his coach and skipper, this is the same dope who wanted to go home in 2009 because the barmy army were mean to him. Remember Phil Hughes had to be dropped on the 09 Ashes tour for Watson so we had an extra bowling option because he was bowling so poorly. Warner probably should of been dropped years ago but when the other options are Bancroft and Harris what really other options do the selectors have???
Btw England are 5/54 against the west Indies in an ODI after 12 overs lol
