Can someone explain to me - seriously - why Indian cricket fans deify Mahendra Singh Doni to such ridiculous levels?

I was browsing through Reddit, and someone made a compilation of some great dismissals that he made, and all the comments were saying he's not human, he's the GOAT, etc.

I think he was a fine player, but carrying on like he was the GOAT?

Gilly, and Sangakkara, were both better batsmen, and Gilly was just as good with the gloves - even better, imo, because he was keeping to the greatest spinner of all time, and one of the fastest bowlers of all time.

I remember a Tri-series final match from 6 years ago, or so, and Doni was super slow in his run chase.

He then unleashed in the final 10 overs - where India need like 16 per over to win -, and they all applauded him for getting India so close to a win.

He stuffed around for half his innings, ignoring singles, not playing shots... Pretty much cost them a chance at victory with his slow play... But they worship him like he's untouchable...

I honestly don't get it...
Dhoni was the red ink king, ridiculously overrated.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the MCG for the 2023 Boxing Day test match against Pakistan

And what a wonderful morning it is.

Stand by to watch the two captains toss.

Is it a trait of drop in wickets that they are “easy” to bat on early but get more difficult? It’s not a good thing.

I love cricket when it is hard to bat and I cant watch it when it is easy to bat.
I've come to realise I go for the fast bowlers regardless of the team.
Cricket needs to get fast bowling academies going all around the world and make rules that are more supportive of the fast bowlers like regulating bats such that if you get an edge it never results in a 6 and rarely a 4 unless it has gone through the slips.

Maybe baseball is more for you then.

Baseball is probably my favorite sport just in terms of the sport itself. It is thrilling and skillful as heck.
But cricket would be better still if fast bowlers dominated, and batting teams averaged total scores of maybe 200.

Didn't deserve a ton IMO. Should have been out for 20, played a shit shit and the slipper dropped another f**king sitter...

difficult pitch to bat on, next highest score was Smudger on 50

he saved our arse, he definitely deserved a ton imo
