It also reinforces the fact that us Aussies shouldn't be so up ourselves and just expect to beat minnow nations like the West indies all the time.
I'm actually glad they won. It's a rocket up our arrogant test players.
I still have scars from the Windies dominance of the 80's.

Very true, but I think the Australian team's arrogance contributed to that. I thought that Starc's innings was incredibly stupid considering the precarious situation that we were in. It was a Test match, not T20.
Lyons shot was worse, last ball of the over with just 25 to get. People keep talking up this team i think we are average at best. Batting line up is very fragile and the captain is tactically pretty poor to be honest.

When you get down to brass tacks... We've just drawn a Test series at home against a touring party that travelled with 7 out of 14 blokes who'd never played a Test. Earlier in the summer, but for some inept slips fielding, Pakistan could have nabbed 1 or 2 of the 3 Tests. And this against the #1 Test team in the world on their home grounds.

Id love to believe this is a symptom of the gulf between Test nations narrowing. It probably isn't but I'll cling on to it all the same.

I mean FFS - you ask any Aussie cricket fan when was the last time West Indies beat us at home and after today's result, we'll all remember. Ask them when they last beat us in a T20 and nobody will know ... FFS they might have beaten us 13 times straight in that format, I wouldn't know....

The team as a whole has to to change in the near future. Smith is getting on, Lyon and Starc are rarely game changers, plus the wear and tear on the players is taking it's toll. Being #1 comes with it's challenges.

What does Cameron Green offer at 4?
I will be honest, im not sure how much he adds lower down the order either.

Good player but i tend to wonder if we have better. ... i think we are just desperate to have an all rounder

I loved that the west indies won ... i was cheering em on today.

They seem like a team of midgets compared to the windies we all knew - lol
The kid who got all the wickets showed what you can do bowling at the stumps.
I loved how they never gave up after a shocking start to day 1.

Cricket needs more than just India and Australia .... hope the windies kick on. But you can bet that the ones who play good will get offered the coin in the T20s and you cant blame em for taking it.

Excellent win for them, they deserved it. Very humble is Joseph.
I was listening to the last hour or so on the radio, ABC Grandstand. As much as they rotated Jim Maxwell , Glenn McGrath etc, they kept a nervous Carl Hooper on. It was great listening, as he was part of the last winning team on AU soil in 1997. You all know the nail biting finish, the singles on ball 4, then the 6. OMG his jubilation when that stump tumbled. I felt his emotion for his country*.

* he is from Guyana, but you know what I mean

Yep. If Marsh is in the team then we dont need Cameron Green. What we need is a specialist batter.
Its a tough one as unfortunately we have no specialist batters coming through that warrant selection.

Cam Green has the best record in shield cricket he averages 56. Now it hasn't translated to test cricket yet.

But no one else has knocked the door down that you could say is unlucky they should be playing.

There is a reason we shouldn't be going back to spuds in Harris and Bancroft they have failed multiple times at test level and haven't demanded selection by averaging 60 or scoring 1000 runs a season in shield like a Simon Katich did back in the day that forced the selectors hand to pick him again.

Even then Katich had proved before his final recall he could deliver in test cricket even when he did get dropped a couple times he had 3 or 4 test hundreds to his name.

Great game glad the Windies won I would have rather all our players play themselves into form though going to NZ for 2 games then leading up to India next summer.

But it would seem we will have to carry some batsmen with poor form and get wiped by India.

England are showing you how to beat them and the Windies showed how to bowl at the stumps.
