You want to claim that there’s a really specific amount of time of rain that puts a risk to getting a result above batting on but below just batting on because the chance of result is too low anyway, but also Paine is correct under all circumstances? And question the accuracy of forecasts.
Anyway it’s all moot now

What?

I said he has to think about winning a game, not getting one player to a record.

Of course if the game was washed out totally from there it would suggest that the declaration was correct. Actually it would probably suggest he got his risk assessment wrong and batted too long, if anything.

It definitely, one hundred percent, wouldn't suggest he should have put one bloke above the team

Given this games is going to be over in 3 days and 1, 2 at most, sessions, I’m sure he could have risked an hour or two. And for me it has little to do with one guy going for record, it’s the potential for a record to be broken

The way Paine captained the test yesterday you could be confused he was trying to win the test at all.

Maybe he was just trying to troll Warner??

Team result >>>> daylight >>>> individual record

Paine is in a no win situation.

If he lets Warner have another hour/session/whatever to chase the record and somehow we don't have the time to roll the Pakis again through bad weather he'll get f**ked in the media for putting a record above the result.

And because he didn't let Warner go after it he's a merkin who had plenty of time to allow him to chase it.

At the end of the day, team always comes before the individual.

I agree. I just like messing with Baz. I actually think he declared later then he should have.

Well this is awkward. I was just enjoying the way you contorted your words...

I'd have declared at 500
What? I didn’t contort anything. I posited different situations for whether you think it’d be acceptable to bat on. You said no to them, including if there was a chance for a complete rain out day 3 at onwards.

I would have liked to have seen Warner bat on to try and break Lara's record - but I totally get why Paine declared; it was responsible captaincy.

20 months ago Warner was the most hated man in Australia.
Now every one wants him to have the world test batting record
I don’t “want” him to have the record, I just thought it was a good chance of breaking an unbreakable record. And I don’t want to be the “I told you so” hindysight guy, but it appears he could have batted on for the better part of a days play and there’d still be a team result

And could Warner really be the most hated in Australia whilst the likes of Dutton, Hanson, Sandilands & #CAMillionaire reside here?
