Alex Carey is one of our worst keepers in recent memory, imo.

Matthew Wade had questionable hands, but at least he contributed with the bat.

Carey offers nothing.
Depends what you value i suppose.

Peter Nevill was a excellent keeper technically but batting wise didn't offer a lot and wasn't loud enough behind the stumps hence why they had bring Wade after the debacle in Hobart 2016 which led to the Sandpaper shit 18 months later with a win at all costs attitude.

I didnt rate Wade as a keeper is batting was serviceable but like Mitch Marsh wasnt top 6 quality to be in the side as a batsman.

I saw him live make a 100 at Edgbaston in 2019 with Smudge but there was never any consistency to it.

Said more about the batting stocks at the time Wade was playing as a batsman after Tim Paine took over.

How Wade was being picked as a top 6 batsman is one for Ripley’s. yet Inglis a much better bat and keeper can’t get a look in. Fish face should be on borrowed time.

Justin Langer liked his fight supposedly it probably reminded the peanut of himself tbh.

A bloke who wouldnt shut up, and an average bat that looked like he was getting more out of himself when he wasn't really that good.

I just don't think Carey is good enough to warrant his spot as a keeper, or a batsman.

He's woefully average at both, I think.

no chirp either

a good keeper has to be a chirper, loved Tim Paine giving to Murali Vijay when referring to the rat

I know he's your captain, but you can't seriously like him as a bloke — you couldn't possibly like him

Absolutely.

It's been my belief that your ideal keeper is good with the gloves, and bat (obviously).

But I don't think we can afford to carry keeper-batsmen in the team who aren't great with the gloves, and are not reliable with the bat.

Surely we can find someone better than Carey?

Pete Nevill is a mate of mine. Lives up the road from me in Balmain. He’s a financial advisor these days. He’s retired from cricket but has been lured into playing some tournament in India soon. He didn’t really want to go but said the money was too good to refuse.

I don’t have much to add here. Just wanted to say he’s a f**ken top bloke. His wife is awesome too.

Too nice a bloke i reckon for the Australian Cricket Team in that period.

Also a victim of Adam Gilchrist changing the way keepers had to be batsman as well.

His domestic form was very good for a number of seasons before he was selected for Australia. IMO he should have been given a go ahead of Wade after Haddin called time. The Hobart disaster wrecked Nevill for good I feel. Not because he failed with the bat (he wasn't he lone ranger there) but they way he was jettisoned, quite unfairly, I think took the biggest toll on his mental game thereon.

Maybe @T.S Quint could confirm my assertions above....

Go on T.S - next time you see Pete taking the bins out, go up and say to him - "this fella on the forums wants to know if your form was rooted forever after the Hobart debacle because you were dropped and never given a chance again. Is Incorrect actually correct??"

Nevill averaged 36+ in first class cricket.... With numbers like that he'd be captain and batting 3 or 4 in the current Aussie side!

Yeah Nevill scored 10 FCs 100s and averaged 36 which is pretty good tbh for a Keeper.

At test level he only averaged 22.28 from 17 tests so his batting never took the step up even if that wasn't his job.

That Hobart debacle well i think Rod Marsh lost his job over it.

Joe Mennie was a woeful selection how the hell did he get a baggy green cap, Callum Ferguson got run out and never got another test, Nevill got blamed for the lack of verbal behind the stumps.

Adam Voges luck ran out.

I am still dirty he got to continue on after the 2015 Ashes when he let us down for a senior player then cashed in against the West Indies and New Zealand so he can stand behind Bradman on the Batting averages.

But yeah Nevill paid the price for the timid display.
