A lot of people seem to like Voss but I'm not one of them. He just talks incessant shit. I prefer Hadley as a RL caller (even though he calls like it's radio), and I think Warren Smith is the best at present, with the ever so slightly senile Rabs next.

Prefer Hadley...? Each to their own I guess.

Vossy did a good job tonight piquing my interest in the game.

I love Vossy. He's by far the best caller in the game.

Channel 9 really f**ked up by punting him for Hadley.

A lot of people on this forum agree with your first sentence.

However, the truth is Vossy will never be back at Ch9 whilst Gyngell is at the helm.

Hopefully Vossy gets a gig on one of the league panel shows.

Now with a lot of Fox Sports personnel also having involvement with Ch9 either currently in the past and with Vossy officially signed with Fox Sports, it is the right time to have a league program similar to The Roast on a weeknight.

Vossy, Matt Johns, Mark Geyer and Sterlo (to play the role Gus Gould used to have on The Roast) is the panel I'd go for. I'd definitely tune in to watch. Vossy/Matty/MG/Gus was the best panel The Roast had during Vossy's reign as host.

OT, Sterlo's new show sucks. It's not Sterlo's fault as he is probably not a part of the production team. The more laidback, casual 'on the couch' concept compared to sitting on a panel is borrowed from the AFL's Fox Footy channel and I don't have so much of a problem with that, but whoever the hell thought it was a great idea to partner Sterlo alongside meatheads like Tallis, Mason and James Hooper (who, YET AGAIN, somehow pops up on another tv show. I dunno how the hell he gets all these media gigs, when he was relatively unheard of 3 or so years ago?) deserves to be sacked. It really is an insult to Sterlo that he has such dead wood to work with.

Remember last year i think when Tim Gilbert had to call a game. ? Bottom of the barrell that game.

I still remember the first NRL match Tim Gilbert called (it was a Bulldogs match at ANZ Stadium IIRC. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong if it was the low-scoring match the Bulldogs won 8-7 in extra time). His commentary hasn't improved one iota in the handful of games he's called since then, and it sickens me to hear his commentary on the highlights reel of one of the moments of the 2014 season - Greg Inglis' try on ANZAC day.

Seriously, I know he isn't 5-star, but Ch9 would be better using Matt Thompson over Gilbo. Thompson has been good to listen to in the few games he's called in Hadley's absence (last time I heard him was Titans vs Tigers this time last year or Warriors vs Broncos at Mt Smart).

Vossy actually takes his job seriously and does his research on players backgrounds and who they played for as jnRs etc. very few have any knowledge beyond their names, and some struggle to get that right!

Andy Raymond is the bloke who really takes that side of it to extremes but as a caller, he isn't really very good.

Vossy's passion & knowledge is unquestioned, just needs to bring the continual enthusiasm for the entire 80 minutes down a bit to allow for highs & lows of a game. I know it sounds harsh, but it sounds like an excited fan who's been handed the microphone for the first time & he can't believe he's got the job he's always dreamt about.

Please don't get me wrong. I enjoy his calls, but I think he's so happy to be back calling games each week that he's approaching it at 100% all the time, rather than picking his moments. There needs to be a range of volume & emotion over the 80-90 minutes of a call.

I actually don't mind Andy Raymond that much, although Fox Sports now seem to put Matt Russell ahead of him every time; not sure if I like him as a commentator - he seems better as a presenter for mine

James Hooper (who, YET AGAIN, somehow pops up on another tv show. I dunno how the hell he gets all these media gigs, when he was relatively unheard of 3 or so years ago?) deserves to be sacked. It really is an insult to Sterlo that he has such dead wood to work with.

The likes of James Hooper, 'Crash Craddock', Buzz Rothfield etc. are all news limited stooges who are shoved on tv as a way of giving them exposure in the hope that it will sell newspapers.

I really like your post! I think its spot on! Vossy needs to stop gibbering and going off on ridiculous tangents when something exciting or out of the ordinary happens. If he sticks to his task of calling the game and only the game, then he will go along way towards being a better commentator.
