I think NZ warriors should go back to being known as Auckland Warriors do you?

Just to clear all this up - they aren't called the New Zealand Warriors, or the Auckland Warriors, or the Penrose Warriors or whatever.

They are the Vodafone Warriors officially, or the Warriors if you're not into your corporate w*nky title. No place in the club, on jerseys, anywhere involved with the team will you find NZ.

Sorry to break this to you, but they are registered as the NZ Warriors. Part of the rebranding they did when they had issues a few years ago and changed their club colours.

"Vodafone Warriors" is major sponsor branding, no different to when other teams are refered to as "St George Bank Dragons" or "WoW Sight and Sound Broncos".

No they don't... For years the Bulldogs were simply known as 'The Bulldogs' and the Sharks as 'The Sharks'...

At the time of the change, it was because they didn't want to be associated with the failed owners of the Auckland Warriors.

Well, enough water is under the bridge now. Auckland Warriors it is then. But yeah i can kind of remember when they were called the Dogs and Sharks respectively. I cant recall them ever being on premiership tables etc without a first name, but you could be right. And they were always colloquially called Cronulla and Canterbury in the meantime correct?

They were definately always officially referred to as just Sharks and Bulldogs on premiership tables, team listingss etc while the rest of the clubs were referred to in full. Colloquially yes, but even now the Roosters are colloquially referred to as Easts, when they changed their name 15 years ago or so.

Why not? Clubs do it all the time. The Roosters went from Easts to Sydney City to now just Sydney. In the mid 90's Balmain and Canterbury briefly became the Sydney Tigers and Sydney Bulldogs. Only a few years ago both the Bulldogs and Sharks dropped Canterbury and Cronulla from their names respectively before deciding to revert back a couple of years ago. There's no reason I can see why the Warriors just can't be known as the Warriors and from other posts in this thread it seems they already are just the Warriors.

The name New Zealand should be reserved for our national side. Warriors only ever represented Auckland. The rest of country are not really passionate about them.

They are the Warriors. Part of the confusion eminates from the ownership entity which is New Zealand Warriors Limited which is who the license is registered to. The club refers to itself in all dispatches as the Warriors. You'd be hard pressed to find any correspondence from the club branding themselves as the New Zealand Warriors, for the simple reason that that is not their brand or what their title is.

Yeah, but the commercial fact remains that they are New Zealand Warriors Ltd. Other titles are anecdotal.

Warriors is enough, their name, their primarily black colours and their maori style logo should be enough to tell you where they come from.

You could say the same for the Sydney Roosters, as there are 8 other Sydney clubs and they represent only the Eastern Suburbs.

You mean the club which is officially known as NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS LIMITED?

What really grates on me is getting force-fed the Vodafone rubbish. Even the Mt Smart ground announcer refers to the team as the Vodafone Warriors, it's pathetic. They must be more intrusive than any other team sponsor in the comp.
