Guitar worlds response to Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists.

If you also read the forum posts of this article you'll see that this list is more credible then that load of tripe Rolling Stones dished up.

lol at Kurt Cobain, seriously who would be stupid enough to read and get music related information from a fashion magazine like Rolling Stones?

I dont agree with everything, eg Hetfield, Hammet and Angus.....but atleast this was voted by the people then some new age dope who thinks Kurt Cobain could play the guitar.

And no f**king Ramones dope

An odd list.

I couldn't see Mark Knopfler, or Eric Clapton (and a few more, I dare say) anywhere in their top 100 guitarists.
And Brian May at 21? He should be right near the top (he's number one in my mind).

I would have thought so too until I read the list.

I prefer Rolling stones one. *Flame suit*

It's a better list but remember it's a poll from readers so favourite bands are still going to come into play ahead of best guitarists.

Very surprised Steve Vai isn't in top top few as well

Jimi Hendrix at 12? should be top 3 atleast

why?

i'm surprised he's as high as 12. His hammer-ons and general guitar playing is very simplistic compared to todays guitarist. Hell i wish he were alive to see his face when he hears Eruption or anyother piece of complex lead guitar:lol:

Oh but he had guitar talents such as 'feeling' what a tremendous guitar talent to have lol

btw

I agree Clapton should've been there, but this was voted by the people...300,000.

Agree on both accounts tbh

The thing i like most about May was you knew it May from hearing the first note! his sound was very unique, sign of a legend.

why? because they didn't get credit to 80's guitarists like Eddie, Malmstein and co but gave credit to poor guitarists like Kurt Cobain and a punk guitarist?

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana should all be top 10, but none of them are there at all, joke.

Satriani > Vai

What I don't agree with is Satch being #77. The guy taught Vai everything that makes him what he is today ffs.

Totally agree.

Clapton is one of the most famous and complete musicians and guitarists alive. I'm not a massive, massive fan but the guy is a mortal god.

SRV is my all-time #1. He was not human - *adopts flame suit*, was better than Hendrix. I've shown SRV DVD's to guys who have remained speechless throughout the entire gig.

Santanta was more so influential imo, bringing a South American influence to modern "Rock" music.

Also - no George Harrison? wtf? The guy was a huge influence.

Nigel Tufnel at #23.....Just goes to show you how serious the list is.

Adam Jones at 9????.....I should've made the list.

Hey Ron if Paul Stanley gets in then Kurt Cobain surely should have.
At least kurt played a solo...PS hung his guitar off his arse all night while he searched for the TV camera's to point at.

77 = Joe Satriani...good grief.

Yeah that's ridiculous having him at #77

I'd still have Vai higher than Satch because, despite being taught by him, he has since surpassed him. As far as raw ability is concerned, Vai could probably be at No.1.

And yeah, as much as I love Tool, can't believe Jones is there and so high as well.

Rhoads is ranked right IMO.

Only made it to 25 before tragedy struck.

His riffs are legendary and his solos go alright, the perfect metal guitarist IMO.

Satch should at least be in the top ten.

IMO, better than Vai. Vai is too much a cliche "show off".

Is there a point to this thread Ron? The list is just as big of a joke as Rolling Stones. As others have said, no Vaughan, Clapton or Knoffler and another one which I haven't seen mentioned yet is B.B. King. The ratings for Vai and Satch are pathetic and how can Adam Jones be number 9 ahead of these blokes and others like Brian May? Tool would be in my top 5 bands of all time but it's not because of Jones' guitar work.
