I dont quite get the Chase hate either. I haven't re-watched the game, and I have no intention to tbh, but on first glance i thought the bad read came from Soward. Actually it was a bad read from Soward that led to 3 of Canberra's tries. Chase had his man, Soward didn't react. Thats what I thought anyway

Yep thought Soward had a few defensive lapses last night which cost us - the lead up to the 2nd Robinson try was a bad miss.

Godz stop being sensible. On these forums there's no sense required. Just take a pick from one of the following Prior, Kyle Stanley, Chase Stanley, Hornby, Hunt or Fein. After you've made a pick continually bag him till other "sheep" flock to you. If your pick has a good game just find another choice rinse and repeat.

I could not agree more with this, it was completely insane... Here we see Rein completely change the game in our favour, defensively and in attack then as soon as he gets us in front he is on the sidelines with less than 5 mins to go.

I saw that and said out loud, "thats bullshit"! The rest is history....

he steered the team last night, some of his dummy running/work was brilliant.

It was the worst defensive read i have seen in a long time. Particularly when they showed the high angle... Chase was completely sucked in by the decoy and left a gaping hole. It was terrible defence from a player who is still adjusting to first grade.

Chase ran hard and played fairly well. In fact he's much better than Kyle in the centres.

But it was his, and his only, major defensive error that ultimately cost us the game.

The decoy was HIS MAN you genius. If he stayed wide the decoy gets the ball and strolls through - similar to just before half time when Thompson breezed past Soward who stood still and assumed he was a decoy.

That's a bit harsh...If Chase stays on the outside man, the Canberra player passes to the decoy and he's through the line. Chase had 2 players to mark. When he went for the decoy his outside man needs to come in and mark Robinson. It was a lack of communication.

He even mentioned in a presser last year that there is no way he can play fullback again. Anyways, not having a go at you just pointing it out so you can get the idea out of your head.

Is anyone else finding it hard to look forward to Origin now? They were playing Game Two before the game last night and I was f**ken pumped for Origin, now I'm finding it hard to get keen after realising we may not make the Finals.

Anyways, I'm gonna have a spew and get something to eat.

the unfortunate thing about chase though is in those 50/50 decisions where you have a choice as to what runner is going to get the ball he seems to pick the wrong one on most occasions..
not sure if this is a coaching thing or an inexperience thing, but someone like cooper for example gets this right nearly all the time, chase gets it wrong most times.. you would always back yourself as having a more then decent chance to score when running attacking plays at chase..

I would say it's a bit of both Red..

A coach can teach a player how to read the defence but I think it's also up to the player to develop that skill and work on his "feel" of the game.

I'm sure Cooper had to start somewhere to become the defender he has become.
