I reckon they will come to their senses.

Not if the Dragons offer Wishart 900k a season for 5 years, plus bonuses etc etc

My biggest worry is that Wishart is now indoctrinated into the Melbourne culture and if we do lure him back, he may get ‘homesick’ for Melbourne and want to return after only a year.

Only way I can see us avoiding this is to bring Jahrome Hughes with him to the Dragons.

It would be a small sacrifice for the club to make but I think we could all agree it would be dor the greater good.

Storm head of recruitment Paul Bunn has revealed the club are confident superstar fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen will re-sign and remain in Melbourne long-term.

The 26-year-old has battled multiple long-term injuries in recent seasons, but has been able to play 17 games in 2024, his most since 2020.

Papenhuyzen becomes a free agent on November 1, but Bunn was confident the Storm can get a new contract over the line.

“We’re hoping to continue with Paps longer than his present contract,” Bunn said on SEN.

“It’s pretty positive all our chats. Matt Tripp (Storm chairman) is involved as well.

“He’s a great salesperson, he’s passionate about what he does, so he’s given me a hand with the big dogs in Harry (Grant) and Paps.”

Meanwhile, Bunn also revealed he believes new recruit Stefano Utoikamanu has the potential to take his game to a new level under Craig Bellamy.

The 24-year-old will arrive in Melbourne ahead of the 2025 season, signing a three-year deal until the end of 2027.

“He’ll improve enormously under Craig’s tutelage and the rest of the coaches,” he said.

“He’s got so much upside. He was another kid, like most of them at Storm, they just want to be coached by Craig.

“They want to be in the system. Craig and Frank (Ponissi) have built a really good system.

“And players will take unders to stay with us, or become part of the Storm or coached by Craig.”

We are aware that some players would take unders to stay at clubs like the Storm and Roosters.

I have copied and pasted this article from Foxsports News because if we are contemplating on trying to get Tyran Wishart to come back, we will probably have a hard time trying based on what Paul Bunn said above.

The Dragons as we know can't keep all of the players that show promise, but they should tie down the cream to decent contracts and salaries commensurate with their age and experience.

For too long we just continue to play the same running on the spot, brainless, robotic players who show no real enterprise like ball skills, off loads, game management, reading the trend of play and weaknesses in the other teams. Just to take the ball up tucked under one arm and head down and charge is not all a player should arm himself with. Many of our forwards, one in particular by the name of Eisenhuth is an example of that. No thought really just take it up and barge as hard as he can. I'd like to see him pass for a change but somehow he lacks skill in passing I think. Same goes for several other forwards.

Use of leg speed and in attack come running onto the ball hard and fast not from a standing start.

The preseason needs better training techniques included. Learn to do things not of the norm that they have been doing for too long that has not been that successful.

I don't have the solutions but surely those paid to work out better ways for us to play with the main aim of course to win should be the ones needing skills themselves.

According to an article on Zero Tackle there is an option in Wishart's contract for 2026, that Melbourne intend to activate.
Looks like Flanagan will need to look elsewhere in the short term at least for a replacement for Hunt.

No, Hunt wants to go so just let him go. That is allow him to terminate the contract.

Then sign Wishart and hope he ends up being a top five-eighth. K Flannagan to 7 and if he does not cut the mustard then to 14 or reserve grade.

No but he's played a handful of good games in a team with one of the NRL's best spines and rosters to help him so all the people who constantly whinge we're not signing any players think we should offer him $1,000,000 and build a team around him and offer him the halfback job. :rolleyes:

He is not a $1 mill player but he is a very good instinctive player and would be an improvement to our squad and could do a better job than most of our team in multiple positions
He is better thank Kyle F for starters and would do an admirable job at 6 as a defensive running half setting up outside backs.
You have to remember this final series he has been filling in at roving middle forward (like a 13?) which is not his strength but he played well last night..Efforts and tackle busts galore
We do need a 7 with a long and deft kicking game who can also defend to support Wishy at 6

I agree he'd be a good addition to our squad. At the right price and in the right position.
He did add some zip last night off the bench. He's not what I'd call a marquee signing though. As they said in Life Of Brian, he's not the messiah!!
