I would like to see NRL clubs utilising their bye week by playing exhibition matches

I would like to see NRL clubs utilising their bye week by playing exhibition matches against emerging rugby league nations. It seems to have benefits to the fans as they get to see there club play each week, good for the club as they could make some money and good for developing rugby league in emerging nations. If the clubs invited teams outside the top 4 rugby league nations to play exhibition games, clubs may find young talent which they could develope at their own club. Basically as an eels fan I hate it when we have bye week and with most clubs in some degree of financial hardship, there could be an additional source of revenue.

will never happen.

Teams wouldnt risk their players. Also, the players that are in these emerging nations sides have clubs that they have to play for.

I love expanding the game, especially internationally, but this is a no goer.

What'd happen if Lockyer got injured? Would do more harm then good for international league.

No.

Bye week = rest

playing = chance of injury, financial loss.

I'd like to see NRL players slip me 10% of their income.....I'd throw it in the pile.

Come one man....these guys deserve a break. Thats what the bye is most useful for, even if it was originally introduced because we had an odd number of teams.

The best players are already involved in three exhibition matches as it is.

Yeah, I mean Origin is played like exhibition matches all over the world.

The Union Barbarian matches are always played with the ferocity of a SOO match. Same with the NFL's pro-bowl and Soccer friendlies are often knock-down drag-em-out style matches where blokes get broken jaws, fights always seem to break out and the tackles would cut normal people in two.

Origin is a lot of things, an exhibition it isn't.

And as for the thread question, no, they won't agree to it. No coach is willingly going to risk sacrificing players in an exhibition match and not many players would choose to take the risk either.

Isn't the whole idea of a bye to have the week off and resting players? Seems like utter bull and risks injury to players. Why do you think they scraped the world 7s? Also, what are we supposed to do when 6 teams have the bye?

I saw about a half of that game the other week and the Barbarians looked like they were just here for a holiday. There was no intencity at all.

The Pro-bowl lol.. That is at the END of the NFL season.. More than 6 months before they have to play another game.. Due to the number of players picked hardly anyone plays more than half a game and when you consider that they have offensive and defensive teams it equates to no more than 15 minutes of play which even then is usually the clock just ticking and nothing happening.

How many broken jaws in soccer matches? lol...

Well, I was being sarcastic.

Parra was suggesting that SOO matches are exhibition matches. I was sarcastically suggesting he has sh*t for brains...

I would sure love to see Lockyer or Hunt injured in these "fun" games....
