Idris to the Panthers

He was in beast mode last year before he died. With Whare an upcoming genius, hopefully they form a little rivalry. All Idris needs is inspiration to be world class, being outshone by Whare may be it.

It's an ok signing
He made huge improvements last year but has been pretty shit otherwise...

Agreed.

Gus and the Panthers had been doing such a great job signing these low risk, high reward players. Unless they got him at a reduced price, this could really backfire for the Panthers.

Benji has f**ked off. Gus knows the footy show chaps. Idris actually signing to the footy show? He'd go for way less than he is worth if Gus hooked him up with that gig.

With the only loss to fit him in for 2014 being Brad Tighe, he must be on a pretty affordable deal. It's also only a 3 year contract, so even if he gets big money for 2 of those years it's not likely to hurt too much.

Before last year all Idris had shown was nothing but a physical presence on the field.

Took his game to a new level last year, finally adding some skill to his game. His ability to put his winger away was right up there with the best centres in the comp and his defence was a lot stronger too.

This is a top signing for the Panthers, I'd love to be a winger there in 2014. Whare & Idris are two of the better centres in the comp at setting up their wingers based on last year, halves just need to make sure they're feeding them the ball on the right occasions and consistently that's my biggest concern. For all the criticism distribution and organisation was one of Walsh's strong points.

Walsh's distribution was rubbish unless it was via the boot or a hospital pass to Newton. I think we are much better off with Soward & Wallace.

I wonder how often Jamal will appear on the footy show now. TVS also sponsor the Panthers, so that may open up a spot to start his TV show, or assist in other shows

Nah his distribution was good, especially last year. His decision making on when when to spread it and his execution and calls of plays was always very good.

He had his short comings but distribution and organisation definitely wasn't part of it, no matter how one eyed the Panthers fans came in believing he was the issue.

Soward is not a halfback & he's certainly not an organiser. Wallace has shown it in the past but I think there's more questions over him at the moment than Walsh.

Titans look to be in full rebuild mode. They do need a retooling after too many stupid signings.

They're gutted Clint Newton went to Newcastle

They should convince Luke O Donnell and Ben Pommeroy to come out of retirement. They really need another forward in his 30's and a centre who is really slow imo.

It cracks me up when people go on about how poor he was in 2012. The blokes hips were stuffed and he needed surgery. From memory they were genetically the wrong shape, so he needed to get the bones shaved back to make them line up better. He has the surgery then started 2013 on fire. Coincidence? I think not!

Also is brad tighe still on the books at Penrith? If he is he will seriously struggle to get a run this year.

It's understood Idris informed the Titans of his desire to return to Sydney on Monday due to compassionate reasons.

Titans CEO Graham Annesley said the club put the interests of Idris, not the club, first.

"We are dealing with people's lives and at times, we have to put the best interests of people first,'' said Annesley.

"Jamal has a really close relationship with his family and we respect his desire to spend more time with them in Sydney.

"Jamal has been great on and off the field during his time at the Titans and while we're disappointed to see him go we fully understand and appreciate his personal circumstances.
Well done to the Titans, that is really a class act.

Wow, Gus really isn't f**king around out Penrith way is he. He copped a shitload of flack all over this forum last year. But by Duges he made a lot of people eat humble pie by the end of the year. Another great coup for himself and Penrith. Now hopefully he can get the supporters out that way churning through the gates again... Very excited for the Panthers aspirations over the next few years :)

It truly is. Releasing a player of his quality so quickly and painlessly is honestly an amazing act by them. I can't blame the Raiders for fighting to keep Milford, but you have to admire when the club is willing to take the hit and allow the player to leave. Not having it drag out through the media, not waiting to see if they can make it work to their advantage. Just doing what they feel is best for the player.

Panthers have gained big time from this, and hopefully it frees up cash for the Titans to sign someone of similar quality in a bit more important position for them. Centres for them could possibly be Maurice Blair and Brad Tighe. Pretty sure they would have played centres at the same time for the Panthers atleast once.
