LMFAO @ people calling this a class act.

This is a Seale-less Titans releasing a plainly obvious dog average player. They paid 500K for him per season.. 500K PER season.

Don't get me wrong, I've think this is a good signing by Panthers, & a good release by GC.

Excuse me while I scoff @ 'compassionate reasons'

Lmao

Idris is average at best and people hype it up like Penrith have signed Eric Grothe snr. They let go of Michael Jennings to sign Idris

Btw how many players have they signed in the last 2 years? It has to be near 25 by now

Wrong. We let go of Brad Tighe to sign Jamal Idris. We released Michael Jennings a year ago... and not to sign anyone in particular, it was to free up salary cap space.

Jamal Idris 2013 form was as good as any of the form Jennings was delivering for the Panthers. Better infact. The team around a player can have a huge effect on them playing to their potential. Would have thought a Roosters fan would know that. Add SBW, Jenko and Maloney to your side and look how many others improved.

I think a strict coach like Cleary would be exactly what Idris would need to take his game to the next level. This is a huge signing for the Panthers of a man still in the early part of his career and they should make the 8 easily enough this year.

Wow, it's like the Titans looked at how Canberra handled Milford and said to themselves "yeah, we aren't doing that shit.".

I'd wait before judging. There has to be some benefit for the Titans in this.

And it's sure as hell not Brad Tighe.

Benji has f**ked off. Gus knows the footy show chaps. Idris actually signing to the footy show? He'd go for way less than he is worth if Gus hooked him up with that gig.

The deal for JT included $600k off the books. $200k of which was a footy show gig. Idris won't bring in the ratings from Qld as hoped but he was a regular a few seasons back so more then likely

:lol: funny how wrong some people can be.

Jennings $850k = Whare/Idris centre combination.
Coote $450k = Soward

I think I know what I would prefer. Throw in actually using 3rd party and Marquee payments and no wonder our squad is 1000% better then under that d!ckhead Leary

Swapping Idris for Tighe is almost some Parramatta level recruitment from the Titans. The only thing that would make it complete is if they offered Tighe more money than they were paying Idris as well. The fact that they didn't shows that they are still a step or so below Parramatta in stupidity.

So the Titans centre combination next year will be Takarangi and Tighe? I don't see that striking fear into the hearts of any opposition team. That is close to the worst 3/4 line in the comp.

Question to those people having a go at the Broncos for signing Barba on compassionate grounds...

Why is it ok for the Panthers to sign an under contract player on compassionate grounds, but not ok for the Broncos to do the same.

I'm also not seeing those hypocrites in the media make the same noise about it

I agree with you. If it doesn't work at Penrith then he's really wasted what could have been a very good career. This is now his third club. The excuses must stop. Gould and Cleary will be the making of him.

Any chance of Jamal hitting form early and taking a centre spot for NSW with Hayne the other centre???? f**k some will have their nose out of joint if that happens.

Idris might become a bit of a fan favourite out at Centrebet this season.

Idris is, granted, one of the less consistent players we've signed along with Soward and Wallace, but you get the impression that Cleary can and will get a lot out of him - hopefully back to that pre-injury form. Plus, he does like his big boppers out in the centres. I think this will pay off.

Cleary is very good at getting blokes to play to their strengths. There may be some teething issues over the course of the first few rounds, but we're on the up and up.

Naiqama, Peachy, Manu (though likely docker while he's injured), Brown, Whare, Roberts, Taylor, Segeyaro and now Idris should certainly keep things exciting. Hopefully we get a few more bums on seats.

Pretty devastating news for us on GC.

By the sounds of things Titans did what they could; if he has a sick mum & she had to live with him up here last season due he's home sickness then for a close knit family its never going to work for either the player or the club. Hope Jamal remembers this & goes easy on us next time we meet!

I see our local rag & AFL mouthpiece the GC Bulletin hasn't hesitated in slinging some mud. Nice bit of unattributed opinion:

Despite having a charming nature that made him a fan favourite, Idris could be difficult to deal with. There were as many high days as low.

His fitness and weight were a constant worry. So were the regular times he was spotted at Gold Coast watering holes when he shouldn't have been.

Yeh because Jennings was so consistent for Penrith.
Cant wait to see Roosters go on a bad run and see how bad Jennings is when things are tough.

Would take Whare and Idris over any center pairing in the comp atm.
