Interested to hear your thoughts on Jamal Idris thus far.

Despite the hype he has been a little quiet thus far. In my opinion he needs to be starting in the centres and would offer more than your current starting centres. He is a very good defender at the very least. Having him off the bench is a waste of time in my opinion.

I sincerely hope he has a good season with you guys, he is a fan favourite particularly with the kids, but as I have alluded to earlier his hype can sometimes overshadow his actual performances.

no 2 ways about it, he has struggled. easy from the outside to say it but i think the way he has been used has been ridiculous. 50 mins in the set against souths then 30 mins when we were already getting smashed against penrith. he has pretty much just been taking hit ups, hasnt really been involved in any backline movements. overall though he looks slow and out of touch.

i dont think coming in for parts of games will help. he should have been played in nsw cup or thrown straight in for 80 mins. i also think not playing the 9s was a huge mistake.

he can no doubt still be an asset but sadly we'll probably need to wait til at least rounds 8-10 to see if was worth it.

You can't play him at the moment in the centres. He got caught out really easily. I'd play him in the backrow and see how he goes. That might also get his fitness up.

I'd love to see him in the centres with Suli but I reckon this is a while off if ever. If that worked though buy a fast winger Someone like JAC would be perfect.

Suli is not ready for the centres yet..
Makes lot of bad defensive reads....And worst of all no decent centre to teach him anything.
2017 is a learning year for this guy
I agree.

However he is still close to the best centre we currently have, despite this.

Nofoaluma was a fish out of water when shifted to centre and Naiqama has the worst defensive reads for a centre in the game today.

Chee Kam is a back rower who is a fill in centre. Time to shift him to the back row and put Lawrence on the bench/in reggies

U do make a valid point.I would prefer to prematurely move the kid to the centres only coz we r extremely vulnerable in this position coz neither chee-kam nor the turnstile Kev r 1st grade centres.

To think the talented kid hasn't got a half decent mentor in this substandard 3/4 line demonstrates how far we've regressed. We can only hope that Idris comes good otherwise we r well & truly f**ked !!

Maybe he makes bad reads because he is defending in a position he has never played before. Center and winger are completely different. No one knows how he's defended in the centers. What I do know is this though:

Suli played all his juniours at center, is playing wing in first grade.

Naquima played all his juniours art wing/fullback, is playing center in first grade.

Lawrence lateral movement is too slow. Opponents get around him too easily.

On Idris -

The guy has been away from the game for a long time.
We got him for next to nothing.

Im happy to suffer him for this year to see if he gets better.

Its going to be a rebuilding year (AGAIN) anyway.....

Some one hit the nail on the head when they mentioned we have a second rower in the centres,a centre in the second row,a winger at centre,a centre at winger etc...no wonder we are f##k#d up,do we even have a recruitment and retention committee to sort this s##t out?

Agree.
Kevy wing or nothing.
Chee Kan only as a forward
Lawrence has to be dropped....bad hands and missing lots important tackles..

I have always been a big fan of Lawrence. He plays a clean game, ran great lines, had speed and power when hitting the line and hit hard in defence. Unfortunately he just doesn't seem to have that anymore.
His hands have been woeful of late, seemingly good for at least one dropped ball without pressure a game, gets dominated in tackles and is missing tackles.

He should probably be benched or kept as depth but we have Lovette and Edwards on the bench and he is certainly still ahead of them.

He had a very solid 80 minutes, setup a try with an offload and looked like he was regaining match fitness that he'd sorely missed in the first 2 NRL games.

There is no question Jamal Idris would offer more than the two fellows you have been selecting thus far in the centres. He can flatter to deceive sometimes but when fit and in form is very strong defensively if nothing else. There is no question he should be playing in your NRL side in the centres.

Kilkenny, we just need to be a little patient with the guy.

Hes been out of the game for a while - he looks fit, but match fitness takes time.
