So positives and negatives i guess , but if he can turn this shitship around all would be forgiven as far as im concerned .
Anyway what we dream of here and what actually happens are galaxy apart :(

I seem to remember him saying the Townsville area was his home or where his family live, which was why he wanted to go back up there?

His wifes family is from there, and father in law had health issues, its why he chose going to townsville over staying at Auckland with the warriors

I can't see him wanting to come back. A few of the many reasons are:

*absolute shit show bottom 4 team vs a team locked in the top 4
*a team with a mountain of work to do re attitude vs a team where he's done all the hard work and got the team all drinking the cool aid
*starting again vs staying up there and reaping the fruits of 2 years of his labour
*possible young guns in a couple of years time with no established stars to help them mature vs a host of young guns already playing first grade and looking great doing it. In addition to being mentored by established rep level stars.

Like all head coaches he probably loves a challenge but you'd have to be f**ked in the head to leave what he's started up in Townsville to come down here to a bunch of players who couldn't give a rats. You put in a stack of work for 3 years, only to get sacked. On top of that the Cowboys showed faith in signing him, and again when he made some big changes and made some big statements early in his tenure, compared to the Tigers who told him "no thanks" when he'd been showing plenty as a lower grades coach and he wanted the job.

No we'll take the Sheenius. It will start out only being 1 year while the search continues.......and continues and continues. This from a bloke who refused to sign a contract where we wanted to insert some performance measures, you know, like every other person on the planet has. But nnnnnoooooooooo.............I refuse to be accountable. There was a bloody good reason why we sacked him in 2012.

Former Tigers star dismisses ‘farcical’ idea of Tim Sheens becoming the new coach

Great a coach we speared 10 years ago and had to pay him out, another coach who we hired a coach to get rid of after he white anted our previous coach, and then he cost us money off our cap for a couple of years, and a coach who was sacked from the club twice. What a fantastic team to mentor and develop our young players!

Looks like the “boys” club is getting back together?

Radisson Caine talking some sense surprisingly. People do seem to easily forget how shit we were with a highly touted roster in Sheens' last year or so at the Tigers. I can't see him turning it around. The circus will continue to roll on 'til us fans are numb to what a joke this club has become.

Maybe a board that can be sacked, would be a start?

If it happens I would suspect it is only because Morris and Woolf have turned us down as well as the original CC. Then WT would be in the situation of just taking unknowns. I wonder if Dean Pay has submitted an application? Anyhow, Sheens if he takes it would only be a short term 'stability' coach for 12 or so months with the presumed strategy of having the first choice successor working as an assistant to him.

I can see it working and the club should still be able tor recruit and informed retention decisions made.

“The facts of the matter are this; he was sacked by the club ten years ago after missing the finals.
“He coached for two years in the Super League. He coached Hull in 2018, when they finished 10th. And in 2019, he got the bullet halfway through the season. Then he went to Widnes.
“When have we ever seen a coach go from the second tier in England, jettisoned up to coach in the National Rugby League?
“Wests Tigers departed from Tim Sheens ten years ago. There have been a lot of other coaches come and go from other clubs in that time, how many have sought Sheens to be the coach?”

This all fits very neatly with our overall player recruitment policy . Sign someone who had a good reputation years ago, is past their prime and no other club wants.

I know there are exceptions to this when we adopt the buy two lose three approach.

Yep, old coaches don’t seem to be the in thing atm, noticeably it’s not working for Bennett atm either?

The positive side of this Tim Sheens Master plan is he trains up Robbie and Benji to be head coach's in two years at the most. (yep it only takes two years of mentorship. Anyone else want to apply? Silverdale your name gets mentioned a fair bit when it comes to this role)
Benji and Robbie are both qualified already. Robbie has been a blue shirt for nearly 2 years and Benji attends the odd training session.

There you go Master Tiger a positive post from me. How did I go?

People talk about the old boys club and it's usually, Farah, Marshall & Payten.

Now Caine has added names like Elford & Galea, who I would not have thought were part of the old boys club even though they may have a 2005 premiers tattoo.

May as well throw Daniel Fitzhenry's name into the mix (see post #522 back on page 27) no doubt he has a premiers tattoo ! What about Liam Fulton, didn't he go into coaching A Grade out Campbelltown way? May as well bring Brett Hodgson back from the UK as well. Or just let the Foxsports experts pick their coach.

Just let Sheens stay where he is and help Noddy - let Noddy have a forward pack the includes Api, Papali'i, Nathan Brown (perhaps) Ofahengaue, Stefano, Matamua - and let him settle on a 6 & 7.

Why the Wests Tigers think they’ve salvaged the Isaiah Papali’i deal

By Michael Chammas and Danny Weidler

July 12, 2022 — 2.49pm

The Wests Tigers have held a meeting with star recruit Isaiah Papali’i in a desperate plea to avoid an ugly standoff over his services for next season.
The Parramatta back-rower has agreed to a three-year deal with the Tigers from 2023, but has been having second thoughts about his decision.

Papali’i has told those close to him that he wants to remain at the Eels next year. Sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Herald that Papali’i met with Tigers management a fortnight ago to raise his concerns.
They took him on a tour of the club’s centre of excellence in Concord, which is nearing completion, to show him what he could look forward to.

As of Tuesday morning, a Tigers official told the Herald that it had been indicated to them that Papali’i would honour his deal.
Papali’i has not requested a release. The meeting was arranged to seek clarity about the future of the club given the uncertainty surrounding the next coach.

Parramatta missed out on the back-rower’s signature after offering an underwhelming extension proposal late last year.
Parramatta were willing to upgrade his 2022 contract, which is worth $200,000, to about $275,000. They also offered him a two-year extension on top worth around $425,000 a season.

The Eels later increased that offer but Papali’i had already accepted the Tigers’ offer of a three-year deal worth in excess of $1.8m.
Having missed out on the services of Reed Mahoney, Oregon Kaufusi and Marata Niukore, the Eels have the salary cap space to keep him at the club. They’ve also granted Nathan Brown permission to talk to rival clubs about an immediate release. The Eels declined to comment when contacted.
It is understood Papali’i is citing the sacking of Michael Maguire as the reason for his change of heart.
He is also concerned about whether assitant coaches Nathan Cayless and Ben Gardiner, who he previously formed a bond with in Kiwi camp, will both be at the club next year as per the arrangement when he signed.

The Tigers have asked him to give the club more time to sort out its future before making his next move.
Fellow recruit Api Koroisau has indicated to Tigers officials that he has no such concerns and will honour his deal with the club from next season.
More to come

No doubt he and others will be super keen to come knowing Sheens is in charge and the plan is 2 years later he will be replaced by a rookie coach. It just doesn't get any more enticing than that.
