If Sevens were to make the Olympics...

Well half the wallabies current backline are ex league players so its practically a reality already.

Yep - two of them (Barnes & Cross) left the NRL as reserve graders.

Here's reasons why the union 7s won't be in the Olympics:

The invaluable prize of the Olympic Games was lost The IRB failed in its stated objective to attain Olympic status for Rugby Sevens by 2012. Olympic inclusion would unlock investment from governments which, in many countries, will only invest in Olympic sports. It would also elevate rugby to a truly global audience.

Despite this critical strategic importance, rugby finished behind karate and squash in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voting process, and roller skating gained more votes than rugby in the first round of voting.

Rugby appears to have been surprised by this result, with the IRB observing that the values of rugby sit well with the Olympic motto of ‘faster, higher, stronger’ and that it is a commercially attractive sport.

Some Olympic observers, however, were far from surprised. The IRB’s application failed because of rugby’s relatively narrow geographic spread and its complete imbalance between male and female versions of the sport.

The IRB has recently appointed an advisor to improve the presentation of its case to the IOC – but has it grasped the development achievements and strategies that it will need to convince the IOC?

They're two different games. Each with their own largely separate audiences. Why make them one?

And that is the very reason that both games will remain small fry on the very large world stage even blind Freddy can see that.

ONE UNITED RUGBY CODE = HUGE WORLD WIDE GAMES
HUGE EXPOSURE = HUGE CROWDS = HUGE $$$$$$$$$$ FOR PLAYERS AND COACHES = THE BEST RUGBY FOOTBALL THE PLANET HAS NOT SEEN SINCE 1895

NO WE DON'T WANT TO SEE THE BEST PLAY THE BEST DO WE LETS KEEP THEM APART AND KEEP BOTH CODES RIPPING EACH OTHER OFF AND KEEPING GREAT GAMES FROM HAPPENING.

I daresay the Rugby we've seen in League over the last 100 years is far better than anything going around in 1895. Every sport is small fry on the international stage except for soccer. But Rugby Union has managed to build up enough of an international game that people are convinced it is far better than it is. That's all League needs to do. It isn't impossible. And writing in caps doesn't make your point (whatever that is) any more valid.

So many with so little forsight ok your dead right about Australia you see the best against the best but imagine Saturday nights WC final with a few All Blacks in that Kiwi Team. It would be a far better game and a lot less predictable outcome. So no matter what you say. The only way forward to match the size of soccer on the world sporting stage is for a game of Rugby United to be born. RL & RU as two entities will never rise to these heights. As for what i typed in caps even the villiage idiot would be hard up mounting an argument against it.

My problem with this is the Union guys would want proper scrums, rucks mauls and lin outs. All of which I think makes the game less enticing to an international audience. No one would be happy.

Really?

WHy is it that a couple of hundred thousand people attended international RU games last weekend...and the weekend before that.

A merged game would be sh*t. Both games are fine as it is.
