fight eight? Is that in Jeff Fenech's fight night?

The way Wags has been going maybe we should call it 2/8 to be fair maybe 2.5/8

I think all Wags needs is to pass the ball more, maybe he should do nothing but pass the ball back and forth at training. hell, I'm off work this week, if it will help I'll go down there and throw a footy back and forth with him for hours.

thats enough whinging from me.

I thought what he said about Witt made sense. He wants him to iron out a few of his fundamental flaws before he steps up and takes control of the team for many years into the future. 8)

Hurriflatch ,I think I have changed my mind about Smith. I can't believe it. I take back all the crap I have ever said about him. He has a plan, and I think it will be good.

Yeah I was actually quite impressed with alot of what Smithy had to say and i've been bagging him a fair bit over the past week or two so I'm happy to sit back and give him some credit. He made some good points regarding Witt's omission from first grade and the reasoning behind bringing Thorman to the club as well. He also indicated that we'd be playing with Thorman, Dykes & Morris, i.e, conventional 5/8, half & hooker at some stages during this weeks game against Melbourne for the first time this season  This could be the beginning of a new style of play for the side with Wagon hopefully moving to a permanent position at lock and Thorman or Dykes playing 5/8.

I thought he did well.

On Thorman/Dykes this weekend, he stated that Dykes had missed a few tackles lately, and thought it was time to give Thorman a go. He danced around the Wagon issue, but stated that they would need some attacking prowess v Melbourne, and that at some stage 'the three of them' would be on the field at the same time. Whether Wagon or John Morris would be the third in the trio was left up in the air.

In the form slump since 2001, he basically disproved all the Smith loving apologists wrong. He basically admitted that they had been playing an outdated style of football. When Cameron Smith hit him with the injuries to the 'big 4' (Killer, Hindy, Cayless and Vella), BS replied that they couldn't use that as an excuse. Twas nice to admit that their playing style was at fault. He did say that we are better prepared to cope with injuries this year, esp in the forwards, thus basically saying that he expects us to do a lot better. Time will tell.

On Witt he added that he was pitchforked, underdone, last year, inyto the No. 7 due to injuries to Dykes and Green. He thought he did a great job, but still needed to iron out a few things before he takes the reigns later on (after Dykes leaves next year?)

On Jamie Lyon I was also impressed. He had nothing but niceties to say about him, and bagged all the Lyon baggers for not really having a clue.

But best of all was the massive sell job he did re Hindy for Origin. He basically gave Laurie Daley advice on how to handle him psychologically, and said that if you and Gus get that right, he'll play for 80 minutes and make the try saving tackle on the runaway Queenslander in the dying moments of the game. I reckon they were very well chosen words.

No mention as to why Wagon exists in firsts, and his reason for piss poor defence "blokes don't know each other that well yet" was a let down.

Overall, though, I thought he went well. He proved to me that he can talk the talk, at least.

It was good to see smithy on the show. I actually emailed nrl on fox asking warren to ask smith why witt is in premier league so i was happy i got my question answered. I agree with smithy what he said about witt, Its all true and correct. I am quiet excited about the game on sunday, i think we will come out firing and put 100 % in the whole game. Im also happy to see smithy agreeing we are lacking abit of attack its good to see he knows where our weak spots are and he did mention he knows our main prob is our defence.

I hate to be a "I told you so". He's is VERY PROFESSIONAL. and Parramatta as a Club is BETTER off for his involvement. He is an educator of good players.

Have said all along, be patient with the kids don't pitchfork them into first grade before their time.. And Misty, that should be reins not reigns.

I think he also let on to this week’s game plan,

He knew that Slater was the biggest point scorer and that he scores his points from kick returns.

Against Melbourne in Melbourne last year Dykes would kick to Slater and they would carve us up.

I think Smith will go for the Brisbane game plan, put the ball out as far down the field you can, don't kick it anywhere close to Slater and then defend from the Scrum.

Misty, for those of us at the Coaches Forum last year, he said pretty much the same thing that we have been beaten from pillar to post and that he was going to get some big boppers to try and gain some muscle on the field.

But he made more of an admission tonight, Mark. Last year he didn't admit that he was coaching to obsolete game plans, which he virtually admitted tonight.

You Smith apologists tie yourselves in knots deending him. Last year you kept blaming injuries. He dispelled that theory tonight as well.

Have a slice of humble pie, Mark.

I am more surprised to see the positive comments regarding BS than BS's comments on the show.

Good to read Misty's comments, as well as every one else. Makes for pleasant reading for a change.

Very glad to hear of a change in game plan.

It gives us more to look forward to, when compared with our lack of achievements in the last 3 weeks.

Regarding his comment about Dykes defence, IMO there is only one bloke that can tackle like Joey, and that's Joey, (except perhaps Daniel Irvine). If Joey is the yard stick of halfback defence, got help those who try to measure up, including Thorman and Witt.

For the most part I thought it was a good interview and made sense. My faith has been somewhat restored.
I don't understand why Smith danced around the 2 locks issue by saying something like "2 hookers, 2 halves or whatever it is we've got." though.

I am not tying my self in a knot, Last year he admitted it and said he was going to change it by getting some big boppers. He said that mid way through last year.

That showed to me he knew what had happened what went wrong and gave me faith to continue supporting him.

He said we can't use injuries as an excuse, which I have been saying we can't. But when everyone was calling for his head I was saying the Reason we were going bad was injuries.

Smith's buys in the off season were to rectify what exact thing.

As I have said before and Excuse is something you say when you are going to do things the same way next time. A Reason allows you to point out the problem and Rectify it. i.e. Buying Big Bopper forwards. #-o

Look this is how I see the last few years.

2001, Rough Start, WLWLDLDL then Great year.
2002, Rough Start, Injuries creep up, Knights game in Newcastle is turning point. Biggest point, Ricky’s Roosters take an Interpretation of the Rules (Go on Player Tackle Playing the ball instead of Dummy half touching it) shortens the time to set defensively and the Up and Hold Patterns Starts to become useless.
Coach Smith got rid of Players like Cayless who would be good at that bought Dykes on the total skill ideal. The Rule change happened December 2001 so your sides were set.
2003, Smith doesn't have much room to move under the cap, but buys a young up and coming hooker as a long term prospect, Otherwise starts getting utility players who can plug gaps, Dunley, Hopkins. Smith then lets a few other "Talents" go to have enough $$$ to by big boppers. Players like Cannings and Stapleton.
2004, I think we are just getting started.

Things have changed and Smith said the "Reason" he went for the Muscle because sand kept getting kicked in a face.

No Pie for me, Smith Re-enforced a great deal of what I have said about him over the last 18 months.
