Immediate changes from Bennett

Guys, just letting you know it was reported on the news that Bennett has made the following changes for the team:

• Justin Hodges and Corey Parker have been dropped as co-captains
• Darius Boyd will be signed
• Darius Boyd will be fullback for 2015
• He is hoping to have Martin Kennedy on deck ready for 2015

Regarding the fullback position being taken, what does this mean for Hoffman and Milford?

What news was this that reported it? -With so much horse shit being slung by the media; we tend to not buy into any rumours until it's heard from the 'horses mouth'.

Pretending it's true for the sake of discussion. It would mean goodbye Hoffman or even Barba, but I am sure Milford would take a position in the halves and/or Hoffman would be given the chance to take the wing or move on...

Personally I can't say I am a fan of Boyd at fullback and think he's better on the wing, where he has always been solid come Origin time. Hoping to see Milford at FB and maybe Barba at 6 with Hoffman most likely moving on.

Last I recall is that Wayne wants Boyd at the Broncos, not that he necessarily will be signed. Pretty big difference...

It was on the Today show, sorry there's no video footage but that is what has been reported. I'm sure you'll sign Boyd though given the contract clause he'll have.

Yeah, Benny had some good things to say about Boyd at the presser (obviously), but no word yet on a done deal. But having said, it'll surprise absolutely no one if we do take him on and is probably expected at this point.

More the question is who goes... They have had salary cap investigations, added Milford and Boyd who was reportedly asking for 750k+ a year. I would imagine Broncos would get a decent downgrade due to Uncle Wayne. That said hardly going to play for anything less then 500k.

Hannant is meant to be off to Titans/Cowboys/Manly. I'd say Hoffman and potentially Barba if they can convince someone to take his contract will also be gone.

Bennett maybe Boyd's mentor, but the club needs to make a decision on Boyd not based on that relationship.

We've seen what showing favourites does to a team with Griffin. Bennett and the club need to look at Boyd with their "team glasses" on, not with their "Boyd is Bennett's second son" glasses.

I'm not totally against Boyd coming, but let's keep it real.

If the talk of Boyd has forced Hoffman out, then I guess there's already been a positive outcome.

About 99% of Broncos LU readers would have already known about it. It was pretty big news in Broncos land.

It doesn't help what the OP posted was wrong. There has been nothing to suggest that Boyd will sign with the Broncos, just that Wayne wants him here.

It doesn't help what the OP posted was wrong. There has been nothing to suggest that Boyd will sign with the Broncos, just that Wayne wants him here.

WB has said that Boyd will play fullback. If that doesn't indicate that it's a done deal then nothing will.

Boyd -> Brisbane is by no means a done deal, yet...

I think IF Boyd comes the statement Bennett dropped makes it pretty clear. I guess the leap is that he will sign which isn't concrete.

As for BF starting the thread. He cops a lot of shit for his enthusiasm and I just didn't think that this thread was out of line

Anywho this is what I think will happen, WB hasn't said that Boyd will sign yet because technically he can't. Broncos will their salary cap problems don't want/need that sort of attention right now. They will need to release a player or two - Barba and Hannants names have been thrown up meaning that if they go (or someone else) then they'll have cap space for Boyd and make it official.

Apart from that, there's also the story of Hodges and Parker no longer being captains - who will take over I wonder. Interesting.

Hodges was the first choice captain when Lockyer was injured under Bennett in 2008, but Parker's standing as a player and leader has went up and up since then. He seems the logical choice for mine now.

Yep that's the point.

I have no problem with the thread, actually I'm glad that BF created it so there could be a discussion. My issue was that the original post was misleading, which I have tried to correct so people reading this thread don't immediately assume that Boyd has signed or is definitely going to sign with the Broncos.

Actually its not just the Broncos salary cap being an issue. Another pretty large stumbling block is that Boyd is contracted to the Knights for 2015...

You're right though, there has been plenty of rumours about Barba and Hannant, and also Hoffman.

I don't think there is an obvious choice for Captain, but personally I would lean towards Parker.
