Injury Update

Yes injuries happen but why wasn't Moylan stood down for the meaningless trial against Parramatta?
He tweaked his back against the Bulldogs the week before and I would have assumed the club passed him fit to play parra. However as a precautionary with the season 2 weeks away why didn't they rest him to avoid further problems?

Moses Mbye and Adam Reynolds both had niggles last week and both could have played if it was important, But both clubs did the right thing and rested both players. So why did we risk Moylan? Given all our injuries last year the smart thing to do would have been to rest him.

Way to go club. More incompetence of how not to look after injured players.
Without Moylan I have little faith in out attack with the injured old farts in the halves. Seggy form in the trials has been quiet and apart from a bit of brilliance from Cartwright we are going to struggle for points round 1.
Don' t want to be negative but I am not liking the signs early on.

To be fair, a stress fracture in your spine is very hard to pick up and is quite often thought to be a sprain/strain of a ligament or muscle and would be uncommon in rugby (most common in hurdlers, javelin throwers, fast bowlers, etc). It usually won't be picked up on x-rays by even the most seasoned radiologists. It more often than not requires a bone scan to confirm even if you have a musculoskeletal specialist or a Peter Stanton/Victor Popov calibre of physio on our staff (which we don't as far as I am aware). It will partially heal then re-fracture and can be months for recovery. Moylan seems to have got off lightly with 4 weeks.

2 times last year we rushed Mansour back only for him to re-injure himself.

Then Soward in Round 2 back injury they tried to manage all year rather then have the op in the off season.

Seg had the elbow issue tried to push through the year. DWZ has the collapsed lung in 2014 no Op only to happen again.

We could of handled all or these different and been a chance of semis last year. great to see we didn't start any different

I agree back injuries can be hard to spot with some testing. But if Moylan has soreness in his back from the Bulldogs trial that he hasn't had before or they diagnose it a minor sprain. Wouldn't the smart thing to do, even if the test show nothing, to rest him as a precaution? especially with a meaningless trial the following week.

He is coming off a long lay off with injury and and has not had a full pre season of training, so he not at the top of his fitness. Wouldn't that send alarms bells to the coach or medical staff at the club to tread lightly with him if he picks up any niggles and to rest him?

The players are as much at fault as the support staff in that case. I have friends who work as medical staff (physio/chiros) for NRL, AFL and EPL teams and they all say the same thing. Its not like Panthers staff make them play and only the player knows just how fit they are. If they pass the fitness/medicals then the final decision usually lays with the player.

If we were needling 4-5 players up pre-game, every game then there are serious issues. Are we? I'm not privy to that info though.

I see your point. As someone who has had a L4 stress fracture in my back and use to compete at a reasonable level in sport, it is a very hard one to manage. You think it is 100% because it is 95% healed and then it refractures (and you don't know this until you cool down or the next day) and it adds to overall injury recovery time.

He probably only had the bone scan on Monday - they wouldnt rush out to get one of these everytime someone said they had a sore back. 4 weeks is a good outcome in this case in my opinion.

As other have said though, caution should have been used considering he is our best player and the long lay off he had.

Let's just hope that it isn't like the minor hamstring injury Whare had last season that would only have him miss one game.

That's my point. Anything like that should not of had our best player playing a full game in a meaningless trial. half a game maybe but seems crazy to do
