Ireland could have scored 3 more tries and won that game.

They played their hearts out till the whistle blew, and good on them.

They were far better than i thought they would be. Those Tongans were brutal, and the Irish held their own.

3 out of the 4 game so far have gone against expectations.

Except NZ of course... a blight on the tournament.

The Tongans were far below what I was expecting.
Poorly coached IMO.
Lam has done brilliantly with PNG.

Dymock has had as much time and as much talent to work with, and those guys might as well have met each other yesterday.

Just got home from Ireland v Tonga. This was easily the most entertaining match of the RLWC so far, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

Wouldn't mind seeing Samoa defeat Tonga in a close game this friday to set the scene for Samoa v Ireland at Parra Stadium.

Not sure what the official crowd was tonight but looked around 7000.

When Esi Tonga scored that try in teh corner and started dancing about in Blanchys face boiled my blood, i hate to see that, you've scored teh try no need to rub it in like that.

But credit to teh Irish their my team this tournament aswell as Scotland (my celtic roots).... But they played some good stuff, and as per usual with platty, his mistakes cost his team, dearly.

Match of the tournament, loved it.

So good to see youngsters like the classy Sean Gleeson, Ben Harrison, Mick McIllorum and Eamon O'Carroll mixing it with the likes of Mateo, Kaufusi and Paea etc
Great experience for them.

Agreed. I think every man & his dog wanted Ireland to win then.

Some people are only tough when they are with their friends.

Well I don't wanna bag Dymock because he's my mate's uncle, but I have to agree. Either they were poorly coached or the players just don't have the discipline to stick to a gameplan.

That can happen sometimes though when you go in expecting to win by 50.

I thought the Tongan halfback was pretty impressive, although of course it wasn't the highest standard of opposition.

Never seen a player as excited as the Irish lad that put the Tongan into touch on tackle 1 off the dropout...LOL

What was Platt thinking with that Feleti 40/20 that led to the match-winning try for Tonga?

Not much unfortunately.

Geez I wanted Ireland to win.

Great contest tho.

Lovin' the Cup!! Just needs a few more in the stands. If only regular NRL fans would get off their collective asses.

Yeah loads of passion and excitement, but not as good a spectacle in terms of quality as the Eng v PNG match IMO (all subjective of course).

This match had plenty of momentum swings and two differing styles.

Tonga looked the best when their sub replaced Leo Latu at 9 with the latter moving to scrum half. Hopefully Dymock will keep that combination on Friday.

I want Parra to sign Damian Blanch right now.

btw, absolutely amazing game. Just got home from it and I haven't been into any game of league as much as that in years.

Crowd were great, footy was exciting, Ireland showed great potential.

Hope Samoa sneak home against Tonga to make the Ireland v Samoa game a real ripper.

After the first 5 minutes I had Tonga by 50. Full credit to Ireland. Hopefully their effort gets some press back home.

Well played both teams. Given Irelands team of no names the kudos has to go to them if not the points. Great crowd, shame it was so small. It deserved more fans watching that game.
