I think you are right here but I also think it is victim mentality to a degree. The NRL makes the bed it lyes in. Need to work a lot harder and smarter to get political influence but it also costs money all of which the NRL clubs want given to them the greedy useless Fs.

I agree with this

The Score Craig Hutchison has been in talks with Channel Nine about new football show

Scott Gullan, Herald Sun
February 22, 2019 6:09am

While the make-up of Channel Nine’s replacement for The Footy Showremains unclear, the network is set to a launch a new player driven footy show.

Crocmedia boss Craig Hutchison, a former Footy Show host, has been in talks with Nine for several months about the new concept which is understood to have been given the green light this week.

Some of the game’s biggest stars will rotate through the panel.

Richmond’s Alex Rance, Carlton’s Sam Docherty and Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead have already been linked to the program.

“It’s a show that will give the players their own voice,” one source said.

SEN’s Sam McClure, who parted ways with Channel 7 recently, is set for a return to television as the host.

Crocmedia bosses recently held secret meetings with two of biggest management groups in the game — Paul Connors and TLA — to gauge their support for the format.

While the placement of the show is still being mulled over, one of the options is to have it run after Footy Classified on Monday nights.

Crocmedia already provides football content for Nine with its Future Stars show, which focuses on the under-18 competition.

playing devil's advocate a little, but is it a futile situation to start an afl footy show after thursday night afl games, given the demise of the nrl footy show in that exact scenario?

NINE DROPS THE BALL

The NRL is not just blaming bad player behaviour for poor TV ratings from the recent Indigenous v Maori All Stars game. A confidential report blames Channel 9. The internal report says: “Channel 9 did not promote awareness of the game on their channels and there was a general lack of awareness for the match.”

That explains weidlers column today blaming player behaviour, Nine is throwing a tantrum because the NRL blamed them for not promoting the game.

Wanking all over the upcoming afl games live from Melbourne at Richmond tigers home ground this morning. They have never given the Wests tigers as much publicity.
Also led every sports news with afl.

Finding it incredible that channel nine did not have the season opener featuring the Melbourne Storm on its main channel in Victoria. This game against the Broncos would have drawn a decent size Victorian audience. But the tv metropolitan ratings figures only feature Sydney and Brisbane figures again! Even a subsidiary channel could have been used in the non rugby league states? But zero figures for all capital cities outside of Brisbane and Sydney instead. The poor coverage treatment continues on channel nine. BTW: Channel nine are still airing it's Monday night rugby league show at 10pm! Another disgraceful timeslot. I'm sure fans would welcome this show on a subsidiary channel at 8.30pm? Perhaps they don't want to be embarrassed with the good tv ratings figures that would happen if they went to a non main channel with a decent timeslot?

The game was the highest rater of the round, it did very well. What do you want? It's not exactly a mystery to find shows on the digital channels.
