Forget the 5 year plan. With the squad we have this year missing the 8 can not be a option. There is 2 teams of quality forwards and now good backs

Finals berth is a must but I won't be mad if we don't get much further this year. Still holding out for 2015.

I've said for a while I wont really judge the job Cleary does until he has a squad capable of finals football and 2014 was always the target imo. He's over-achieved in 2013 with a squad everyone said was wooden-spoon worthy but 2014 there are no excuses.

2015 might be the year we contend for a title...but 2014 should be finals or bust imo.

Panthers looking really good this year, some real quality outside backs with awesome depth. Think Soward will have a very strong year and get close to his 2010 form and Wallace will compliment him nicely. Good solid forward pack with an electric dummy half and you guys have bought smartly with Taylor, Kite and Peachey.

Idris and Whare will go close to being the best center combo in the comp and I think Whare will go close to Dally M center. Have two of the quickest players in the NRL with Roberts who is absolute lightning and Naiqama who looks like a real footballer on top of being very quick.

Cleary has a roster here who are just as good if that better than the one Cleary had in 2011 with the Warriors. So am thinking a 4-6 finish will be where the Pennie Panthers finish at the conclusion of the regular season.

1. Kevin Naiqama (Don't rate Moylan, not enough pace for fullback. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to take over in 2015/ 2016)
2. James Roberts
3. Dean Whare
4. Jamal Idris
5. Josh Mansour/ Simmons (Depends if Simmons can maintain the form he had last season or even build on it.)
6. Jamie Soward
7. Peter Walace
8. Brett Kite
9. James Segeyaro
10. Tim Grant
11. Sika Manu
12. Lewis Brown
13. Elijah Taylor

14. Bryce Cartwright
15. Tyrone Peachey
16. Nigel Plum
17. Sam Mckendry

Good luck for 2014 Panthers fans, just not too much as I don't think I can sit through another 62-6 mauling ( Warriors fan :D).

Thanks for the comments Doug. I agree with your thoughts Moylan is too slow for fullback, I was actually hoping we would get Locke from you. Good luck to your boys this year!!

Yeah cheers mate, always had a soft spot for the Panthers and this yea they finally look like they have a descent team together and good coaching structures. Hmmm never really rated Locke, lacks support play and generally lacks fundamental skills needed to play fullback, also has lost his speed. Always thought The Fish was a lot better at fullback tbh.

Well now you have Tompkins and if he can adjust to the NRL, he will be better than both of them. Your season all depends on whether Elliot has learned from his mistakes at the Panthers and can give you the discipline and structure you need to compete. Good luck......

I like Cappy McFadden, but I'd take Ivan Cleary back in a heart beat. Always would have. The Warriors had this mythical nonsensical idea about Ivan not being good enough to win a grand final, and that they needed to change to get the next step. In a round about way, that decision has cost the Warriors plenty financially in paying out coaches, and it has led to the CEO essentially being forced into an untenable decision.

I'm super glad for Ivan. And, I hope he gets his premiership here this year or next. He's doing exactly what he did for the Warriors. Putting in key players along with establishing excellent junior pathways. I have hated for the past 2-3 months the media essentially writing you blokes off saying you don't have a genuine superstar - guess what, Parramatta does, and guess what, they didn't even make the 8. If I was putting together a team from scratch, say a fantasy draft, I'd be looking really closely at Moylan, Cartwright, Peachey, Segeyaro, Mansour. Thats the thing with Ivan, he is par excellence in terms of identifying which players are on the up and which players need to be moved on. This is why guys like Jeremy Latimore, Lewis Brown, Elijah Taylor, Matt Robinson all went with him. Because they know that a coach like Ivan puts together a chellenging environment and the right systems and structures to get you to your best.

I seriously am on your bandwagon, and hope like heck Penrith win the title and Ivan gets his first premiership. IMO he's Origin quality at least as far as coaching goes. He had one howler of a year with the Warriors, 2009, but lets not forget, young Sonny Fai was tragically taken from this world during that off season and I don't think the Warriors or any club could cope particularly well with that. Especially since his body was never found, so there was no closure for anyone.

Quality post Iafeta. Us older Panther fans are all to familiar with what a tragedy can do to a team.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of Ivan's MO. He certainly knows how to build a team to make the fans proud. I honestly wouldn't swap him for any other coach past or present at the moment. I really hope he wants to stay for 10+ years & emulate Bennett at the Broncos MK 1 or Bellamy at the Storm. Minus the cap cheating.

The Warriors in 2011 could have been on the verge of something great. The decision to release Cleary was a huge missed opportunity, and must go down as one of the biggest blunders in their history. I feel for their fans, as well as those of the Dragons. Management decisions have cost both clubs dearly. We had the same (or worse) management issues for a long time, until the return of Philip Ronald Gould. This man must go down as one of the most important and influential figures in Penrith history. Lets review his association with our club.

He made his first grade debut with the Panthers. He still holds the record as our youngest ever captain. He left not long after, but returned post playing retirement and took on the role of Head Coach. In his first season he took us to the grand final. In his second season he won us our first minor premiership, and soon followed that with our first premiership. Disaster followed with the tragic death of Ben Alexander, an event which eventually lead to the man they call Gus leaving in '94.

2011 saw Gus return, this time as General Manager. Penrith had been suffering through a long period of mismanagement, both financially and footy wise. This chapter is still being written, but it is fair to say Gus has turned around the Panthers fortunes. If things continue to go according to plan, this could well be his greatest achievement.

People can say what they will about Gus' writing, his commentary, his mug, but dead set when it comes to finding success in Rugby League the bloke's had a basically flawless career. His only failure you could say is not winning the Roosters a GF in the 90s, but he still took them from Transit Lounge nuffies to superstars, and Sticky finished the job.

He is a deadset terrible commentator, but he knows his stuff. We owe him a lot.
