Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Surely he has one season left in Canberra if he can't get them to the finals with that roster, the reasonably significant home advantage (that has historically been more significant than any of the Sydney teams etc) and their absolutely plum draw.

He's trailed off at every club he's been to as players presumably became bored of his over the top motivational, barking BS. So it'll be interesting if this happens again.

I hope he f**ks off quickly to a club I hate so I can get on with liking Raiders fans/the club.

Both Sticky and Brad Arthur about to go in to their 3rd season in charge of their respective clubs. If both the Raiders and Eels miss the finals in 2016, will they both be unemployed? Just one of them? Or will both still be there for 2017?

Given Stuart's reputation (built on 1 GF win back in 02 after being handed a superb roster put together by his predecessor and Phil Gould), surely he gets punted if the Raiders don't play finals footy in 2016. If he does get rissoled, I don't think he gets another NRL gig again... Super League maybe, but no club in AU/NZ would risk signing him...

If both sides miss the 8 i cant see either getting sacked.

Arthur will stay because he got Foran there.

Sticky will stay because it was his first year with a team he actually assembled.

Both groups of fans wont be happy but..

but the latest on him as they are planning to extend his contract before the season starts

It's mind boggling that the Raiders could entertain this. It's basically a race between the Raiders and the Forbes Magpies for his signature. You could wait until the evening his contract expires and be pretty sure he won't be poached (unless by some miracle he starts getting amazing results)

Whatever you think of him, the players clearly like him. It's why most of the squad is locked up till 2018. I'd say a lot of them have get out clauses if he is dumped as well.

Not a massive fan of extending him without seeing how this season pans out. But if that sort of stability is helping sign and re-sign players then I'm happy enough.

He's been doing a good job though IMO.

Apart from 2005 Origin and the great year with the Sharks it's been barren since

2008 was a good year for him at Cronulla, but he balanced out with a WC final loss to the Kiwis before losing his post for getting stuck into the ref at the hotel the next day.

Sounds like Sticky has managed to convince Junior Paulo to head south for 2017 onwards... Who knows, the Eels and Raiders might yet come to an agreement to let him go there for 2016...

From all reports it was an offer too good to refuse. I would have liked to have kept him, maybe topped up his 2016 contract and extended beyond that with the money we used to re-sign Pauli Pauli....

If Junior keeps improving at the rate he has in the last 2 years, this could well prove a master stroke by Stuart. Hats off to Sticky, I think he's got a good'un here...

At this point, you can't doubt Stuart's ability to recruit
His ability to coach remains very much up for debate

That doesnt last too long. I remember a Roosters fan commenting that the players soon get tired of his intensity. Players seem to tolerate him for about 2-3 years.

If Denis Fitzgerald is the fart in an elevator Sticky is the elevated fart, having said that who here really wants to see Croker cry again . . . go the Raiders

in this thread somewhere there is a list of players who knocked him back

he's a failure

All coaches have knock backs. His failures turned out to be positives anyway mostly. We still have managed to sign three huge upgrades in the spine including the best hooker the raiders have had since Walters.

He upgraded Josh McCrone to aiden seizer, s busted Terry Campese for Blake Austin and Glenn buttriss to Josh Hodgson.

Yep what a failure..
