Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Fair enough he gets another few years. He cleared out our dredge and has built a good side. Compare the side he inherited vs blokes like robbo and madge

And now the pressure builds for Ricky. He has the squad he wants. No excuses if they miss the eight.

I like what I see with the Raiders and what Stuart is doing there. He has recruited well, very well, they play an exciting style of footy, which will get better with the addition of Sezer. All the talk about players in the past getting tired of his tough disciplined approach to training is very meh to me, someone like Bennett is pretty tough on his players and they love him. It's about getting the mix right of toughness, discipline and man management, Bennett has that down pat, I think Stuart is heading in the right direction as well. Glad to see him succeed rather than death ride him.

He got exactly the same in '02.

I think he is heading in the right direction as a coach, but he wouldn't have had such a sustained stretch of gigs if it wasn't for the side Murray delivered him.

Sacrilege mentioning the great Muzza and Sticky in the same sentence but you are right, Graham paved the way for more than one

He f**ked off Tilse, Campo, McCrone, Robbo etc, resigned Wighton, Vaughan, Boyd, Papa and signed Sezer, Whitehead, Hodgson.

We are in great place, compared to 2014 when he joined the club

This.

Love him or hate him, he got rid of a lot of our dud players, and brought a couple of good players over.

And now Arthur can work off the hard yards Rick put in.

And he did blood Radradra and brought Peats and Norman over

But apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us?

I bet they're glad they fought off all those other clubs to retain him. That was a close call.

That was my initial thought. Like us with McFadden, although Stuart is proven...to stink.

I've got no doubt he's the best coach for the Raiders in 2016 in terms of having started a job there and the fact they aren't (yet) sick of his voice. I just dunno how he gets reappointed for that long based on one season with an absolutely horrendous home record and a late-season draw that should've had them contending for the 8 right to the last day. Basically he had to really suck to not get reappointed.

Just get on with sucking and appoint someone else so I can want the Raiders to do well again.

Yes, McCrone alone has Sticky getting my vote. It must be observed now however that he has come almost full circle, back to the start of the No Excuses Rollercoaster . . . will he graduate to the front seat where the fun is or remain hanging on in the back

He built himself a decent roster and failed to get the best out of it - an amazing run of luck in avoiding major injuries plus a relatively soft draw but failed to make the 8. Says it all really.

That he signed Sezer to replace Williams in the starting side is a concern. Stuart has been halfback cancer for pretty much his entire coaching career, and his choices aren't getting much better.

I really don't get the doting love for Sezer. He may be better than what they had, but he's a solid first grader at best. Nothing special at all but Raiders fans talk him up like the messiah.

It's the same thing we went through with Hodgson last year, it's almost less about what we thought about Hodgson and more what we think about life with Glenn Buttriss as the starting hooker

Sezer's an above average FG halfback who has a good kicking game, can get repeat sets and doesnt fade in and out of games. He's not a messiah and he doesnt need to be.

Given we've suffered through 15 years where guys like Andy McFadden, Michael Dobson, Brad Drew, Josh McCrone and Sam Williams (amongst another 10 or so failed options) plays significant minutes for us as halves... a competent well rounded halfback, who can pass, kick and defend well and just knows how to play for 80 minutes is a f**king godsend.

The best halfback this club has had since Stuart played for us was a rookie Todd Carney. Let that sink in, then you might understand why we're excited to have Sezer. Having a halfback who might one of the best 7 or 8 pure halfbacks in the comp is a HUGE upgrade on having one in the bottom 3.
