Have you been to the shire? You only need to spend a few minutes rolling through the streets to figure out the shire was the perfect place of a riot of that kind

Canberra is excellent for young families. Not ideal for single 18-30, but the developments like City to the Lake, Kingston foreshore etc should mean in the long term Canberra is going to have a pretty good nightlife

I dislike the shire as much as any normal human being but lets be realistic, a very large chunk of those morons running around the shire that day were probably not from the shire. That being said the whole idea was flawed and was always going to end up as it did. The justification of 'defending the beach' or that it was triggered by lifeguards being attacked is ridiculous, there is no excuse for acting the way those idiots did.

On December 4, 2005 a relatively unexceptional altercation occurred on Cronulla beach involving a group of young men of Middle Eastern appearance and some lifeguards. A verbal exchange took place in which one of the Middle Eastern men responded to accusations that he was “staring” at a lifesaver by saying, “I’m allowed to, now f**k off and leave our beach”. The lifesaver responded with, “I come down here out of my own spare time to save you dumb c**ts from drowning, now piss off you scum.” A fight ensued, in which one of the lifesavers was badly hurt.
