Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Does Ricky plant presser questions with his media mates? First one from the crowd was basically making injury an excuse for him masked in the form of a question

And Campo whinging about penalties... oh dear. He looks like a broken man.

He's a poor mans Steve Price.

But, BUT, he's one of the McIntyre's boys. A Queanbeyan Blue, through and through.

Thats all that matters down here.

Anyone who thinks he's being sacked has no concept of what the Canberra Raiders footy club stand for.

He'll be here until at least this time 2016

I sometimes wish I could change teams..they seek our membership dollars and then refuse to have any involvement with the fan base.

I don't even go into games thinking the Raiders will be competitive. I expect them to get trounced. Towards the end I generally want more points scored against us, so Ricky can be punted. In fairness I'm not even angry with him, it's not his fault his a hopeless merkin. ..it's the board for head hunting him and then signing him up on a lifetime contract. All this whilst winning the spoon..

Anyone who gives a cent of their money to the raiders in the form of a membership is just lining the pockets of old men who look down their nose at you.

It's like the waiter of a fancy restaurant giving part of his pay back to the billionaire owner because they are brainwashed into thinking it's somehow helping.

I pity the people who give their money to the raiders board, they literally laugh at you.

As I was saying. This is all spot on.

I've always wondered, how do certain coaches have such varied levels of success from club to club. Fair enough if a coach's shitness is constant throughout their career (ie. Matt Elliot), but blokes like Stuart & Bennett have appeared in countless grand finals.

Do they just decide not to care about the team they are in charge of? Do the players suddenly decide to play like f**k? It's not like a coaches methods would necessarily change that much, so its weird how these 2 blokes can go from premierships to spoons in such a short space of time.

I'll leave you folk to hypothesise the source of Stuarts riches to rags decline.

hope i don't put the mocker on us but if Eels win next week it'll be interesting to see what Sticky says in the presser. Probably claim it as a win for Raiders as he is the one who apparently turned them round....

some coaches are gifted with talent that it doesnt take much coaching to win games.

real coaches are those who can turn a team around, bring out the potential in young talent and win games. Ricky is definitely not one of those coaches.

His only gift is the gift of the gab, and once that trick is used up - theres not much else but tears....

Q: What is the difference between Ricky Stuart and a Pyromaniac ?

A: A Pyromaniac would not lose this many matches :)

He will do what he did when nsw won origin and claim he was a part of laying the foundation for the win with his actions back in the day

Eels (A)
Dragons (H)
Sharks (A)
Tigers (H)
Eels (H)

Can Ricky pick up consecutive wins before the end of the season and avoid hitting 2000 by the start of next season? I doubt it.

Knowing how shit we can be at times he'll probably beat us and the Dragons.

With Ricky, it's clearly that his players get to a point where they no longer respond to his ranting, raving, finger pointing, blame shifting, ref criticising etc. His environment is toxic.

It explains why he inherited a gun Roosters side in 2002 and 4 years later they were only saved from a spoon by a hapless Bunnies mob. He went from joint minor premiers with the Sharks to one off another spoon (thank god the Roosters were still recovering from his mess!) And we all know he couldn't do a thing with the Eels roster, then a coach with zero experience but significantly better man management/nous has them in the 8.

The Raiders (fans) deserve a Cappy or a Brad Arthur, but they got this berk.

I think I like this thread at least as much, if not more than the old "LOL@50uff$" ones, it's truly enjoyable. I kind of wish he coached a team I hated instead of the raiders but beggars can't be choosers.

The answer is he probably wasn't very good to start with. Roosters 02-04 was all the Gus and Freddy show. Stuart has done pretty much nuthen since without Gus and Freddy there to make him look good.

the outlier for ricky. the season that makes no sense what so ever is 2008.

how..did that team win 17 games and a finals match?

i mean, it wasnt a bad team. Kimmorley, Bird (until he birded) Gallen...

FFS Luke Covell scored 15 trys and was top point scorer.

weird.

Absolutely this. Taking a look at the new posts in this thread is one of the first things I do when I check in here. Plus, it takes some of the attention away from the waste of a season the Knights are enduring as we speak. Like, things are not good up the F3 right now (McKinnon's injury, Bennett's fly-by-night deal with the Broncos, on-field ineptitude etc.)?but at least we're free of Ricky Stuart!

You're a Sharks supporter, how did they? I remember them playing a really wrestly, slow, niggly, grinding sort of 13-12 sort of brand but I could be wrong.

weird.

I would put it down to Kimmorley understanding enough about the game to get the job done even with Ricky's input trying to cloud and confuse everyone.

Noddy was a talented enough half to guide a team round the park and beat most of the also rans week in week out.

Having, Bird, Gallen, Brett Seymour, Luke Douglas, Danny Nuttly, Ben Ross, Bryson Goodwin and Brett Kearney you have the basis of a decent squad. Speed, strength, agility and players with ticker. It was a well balanced if unspectacular side.
