Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

In 2008 they only missed the MP because of +/-.

The theme with Ricky has been a good start, then a fast dwindle. The problem is, Eels & Canberra weren't any good, so he never had that short window. And we all know all players regress under him.

As someone above said, he creates a toxic environment. At both Raiders & Eels he said they don't have the players to go well. How inspiring..... FFS when he took over NSW in '11, he said "I'll be happy to win 1 game...." WTF?

To be fair to Ricky, the reasons it went south at the Sharks were beyond his control in a lot of ways. You had Bird completely go off the rails at the end of 2008, along with incidents from well before his tenure coming to the surface which destabilised the club in 2009 (Matty Johns gang bang and the CEO clocking a female worker whilst "shadow boxing"). Although once the wheels started to fall off, Ricky didn't do a whole lot to put them back on.

I think he needs a good defensive unit to succeed as a coach since he has no idea how to coach an attacking team. If you look at all the teams he has had success with, they generally do well defensively (Roosters and the Sharks). Although I agree, his intensity seems to wear thin on players after a while.

His second NSW tenure was a bit of a mixed bag, under Bellamy we produced some of the worst performances I've ever seen from a NSW team (the 2010 series was probably the worst I can recall), and then they come out under Ricky and actually looked a competent team again, although his win 1 game nonsense was idiotic.

Feb - Seymour gets drunk, falls in a bush and is made to apologise to the fans? he never really recovers. obviously troubled.

Same with Parra.
He knew they would go nowhere with him in charge this year so he fled.
Thought he could save some face by getting the Raiders into the 8.
Well Thats up the shitter now and he's been exposed as the fraud he is.
Still got 2 full seasons after this one to go Raiders fans. He ain't goin anywhere.
Don't worry Waqa will make a huge difference next season.
Maybe they can take Kennedy off the Broncos. Hahahaha that would be sweet.

Marshall Magic is one of the few people that think Origin players are actually coached by Origin coaches. If Bellamy had of coached Qld the Maroons wouldn't have won any easier than they did because he had already spent years turning the nucleus of the team into the great players they are.

Bellamy's turn at waving a blue magic wand coincided with his Melbourne based Qld players being at their peak. In the same way Graham Murray had the Roosters primed for Sticky Bellamy had the Qld nucleus primed for Meninga. By MM's reckoning Meninga must be far and away the greatest coach Rugby League has seen

They were playing ok early in the season and then they got embarrassed in the Manly game and he dragged the whole club into crisis mode with his bullshit talk and they never recovered.

Graham Murray had the Roosters primed for Sticky

That didn't actually happen. Gould laid the platform in 95-99 for Murray's GF year at the Roosters in 2000 but they were going backwards under Murray by the end of his tenure in 2001. Gould was back in charge as coaching director in 02-04 when they had their biggest success.

Most of Roosters success in the whole 95-04 period is down to Gus & Freddy. Murray was just in the right place at the right time in 2000.

I don't think an origin coach and a club coach do the same thing, the origin coach's main job is to fire the team up and galvinise the playing group. Under Bellamy the Blues came out flat on a number of occasions (and copped some awful hidings) but to be fair to him, appointing him in the first place was a dumb decision. When Potter inevitably gets the chop at the end of the season I would be stoked if Bellamy took over (won't happen), I would be livid if Sticky took over (even less chance of this happening) and even more pissed if Mal took over (which won't happen either).

Whilst i agree Gould & Fittler deserve most of the credit youre off base about murray.

Going backwards ? They only lost 2 more games in 2001 compared to 2000. Technically backwards but you're a hard task master.

Also Murray was in charge when Morley & Crocker came to the club.

Murray was dudded big time when he got the sack.

I don't think they were a happy team by the end of 2001 though Herbert. Lame ending to the season getting smashed first week of the finals and rumours of players not happy. So I wouldn't say Murray was dudded, just a case of he'd probably lost the players a bit and Gould wanted back in so bad luck Muzz time to go. It did seem like he was dudded at the time though.

Bringing Morley was his biggest contribution, I agree with that. That had a big impact, no one considered their forwards soft coqs anymore after that.

Raiders have replaced Matt Parish with Knights NYC coach Mick Crawley as assistant to Staurt.

Such a shame for Crawley. Looked to have so much promise as a coach :(

we will get smoked.
for all his woeful efforts this year without the ball, Jarrod Croker Should score a double and kick 7 goals at cronulla.

its the type of game Milford gets a huge SC score in.

The Sharks don't deserve the spoon. We've worked hard all year for it and I'd hate to see all that effort go to waste.

Sorry RCB et al but I'll be cheering on Sticky for the spoon. I just think that three in a row, including consecutive years with two different clubs, is a record we should all be hoping is achieved.
