I can't really think of any Aussie forward who clearly outplayed him tbh. How do you compare? The Aussie forwards were a well-oiled machine. SBW was a one man band in a crap forward pack, constantly trying to do something against the grain. That anyone could see that as him failing to show up or failing to perform on the big stage is truly bizarre.

Sonny Bill Williams and Mannering were the only ones who turned up for the Final. No surprises there. I gotta stop coming to this forum and reading the agenda driven posts (much like avoiding those 'opinion pieces' on stuff) though otherwise I'll keep getting stuck in shitty arguments :lol:

I wouldn't say SBW had a bad game. But IMO he didn't have a good one either.

But it would be unfair to single him out simply because of his high profile or this recent award. He did not play to the expectations- But neither did the rest of the team. Bitterly disappointing performance, but a respectful nod must go to Aussie for their brilliant performance that just dished up a lesson in professionalism to the Kiwis (again) who had no answer.
It's not like the Kiwis did anything really bad, it's just they did nothing period

The thing that really stood out for me was how Johnson just went completely missing, other than to put up a poor last tackle kick. It seemed like he was deliberately going out of his way not to get involved.

Most of the others were trying and getting outplayed, but he was just awful.

Not disagreeing with you, but the Pressure the Aussie defence was putting on him was outstanding. Regardless of whose responsibility it was, someone needed to be telling him to be standing deeper from the play the ball, (Mannering? Foran? Kearney!!?) and the dummy half needed to be getting him a faster pass.

We really missed Leuluai as well. He could of made an impact as reserve hooker and created some go forward momentum.

Melbourne teammates Smith and Cronk and North Queensland's Thurston are joined by the Sydney Roosters' Kiwi star Sonny Bill Williams, South Sydney's England ace Sam Burgess and Scotland's Danny Brough as nominees.
The 2012 winner, Kevin Sinfield, missed out on the shortlist for the annual award for the world's best player as judged by international media.

Perhaps Gary Grr or that 42yo oboe playing christian sickness beneficiary would be up for a rematch to keep the boxing career alive. I hear they've been training hard using the official $BW snuggle pillow for a punching bag
