Is the All Stars game now officially a joke??

well, actually it matters a lot if he wasnt serious, as im sure is the case.
It sounds to me like the reporter asked him a tongue in cheek question about injuring his club captain and that was his equally tongue in cheek answer. Youre reading far too much into a throw away comment

The Maori v Aboriginal match pre WC had no meaning apart from pride in the jersey. That turned out to be a pretty good match didn't it.

The match will have teething problems.

If you don't want to see the game don't watch it, just don't tell the rest of us it is a nothing game. I will take this game over the Charity Shield that is for sure.

so it can be like the 20/20 celebrity match you compared it with

uhhh.... because it already is like that, without having celebrities...like i said.:sarcasm:

The point, which it seems flew right over your head is that the result of this game isnt important like it normally would be with any other game of footy. This one is purely an exhibition game played for pride, rather than results.

What will be more of a joke is if a player cops a season ending injury, playing in the game and ends up not being able to play for the club that pays his wages, for the rest of the season.

The 'All Star' billing should be used loosely, it gives the wrong impression IMO. If you look at it as a 'The NRL's Best' vs 'The Best Indigenous Team' than you will be disappointed.

This is nothing more than a hyped trial, similar to the Charity Shield - the result means little and it serves only to get some of that off-season rust off the players. What are people expecting tomorrow night? Origin type rugby league? Reality check - it ain't gonna happen. There are some big names playing, more missing, and I only hope that all who partake get through the game unscathed.

If we see a Thurston, a Lockyer, a Prince or a similar skilled player suffer a season ending injury, the news on Sunday won't be about the game and the positives it brought about.

He mentioned how he doesn't want to hurt Lockyer (since he's so important)...which implies that players won't take this game that seriously and all they are looking to do is come out of it unscathed. Not that I would expect them to do everything it takes to win but it's not a good look for the game.

yeah....he also said that he told lockyer to just drop to the ground in front of him so he doesnt have to tackle him, and that he would do the same. Do you believe that also??

Deadset, some people just want to complain about everything they possibly can, even if it was a throw away joke.

Do yourself a favour and dont bother watching the game, im sure it will only end up annoying you somehow anyway. I, on the other hand will kick back with a few rums and watch a great exhibition match.

I feel for Preston. Searle reckons he was in tears when it came about - representing kooris is the career highlight for him.

Now, the rules are clown rules. Thaiday doesn't want to hurt old grandpa in the other side, and PJ marsh is representing the Kooris because his great great great great great grandmother was one.

Under those rules Morley would be more eligible!

Bring back the bloody sevens then watch Melbourne get flogged in the WCC instead!

So "we will need him (Lockyer) for the season" should be taken the same way as "I'll ask him to fall over"? Ok..

As for the rest, please. I'll be watching this game just like I will watch the WCC and I want it to stay. The more serious players will take it the better it will be for the game and the more likely it will stay.

f**k me there is some whinging about this game...

We get a pre-season game show-casing some of the games best talent, there has been a HUGE amount of pre-season publicity and goodwill generated that would not normally occur, and there has been a heap of money raised for the game that would be channelled back into community projects.

No ones ever happy are they?

Shut the f*ck up, sit back and enjoy the week that has been and the game that is to come. If you don't like it, dont switch on and enjoy the scrum re-sets of the tahs v reds, an afl pre-season game, some internet porn or whatever floats your boat.

I for one am finally proud of a new innovation, and that the NRL (albeit with the help of Searle, a great addition to our game) for once.

Did you even bother to watch the video in the link you posted?? because if you did i cannot understand how you could possibly have taken what Thaiday said seriously, nobody is that thick, surely.
Straight after he said he was going to try not to hurt Lockyer, he said "ill just tell him that when im running at him, ill just fall down. Same for him when he runs at me he has to fall down as well"
In the very next sentence the reporter asks what happens if if Lockyer doesnt just fall down in front of him and instead decides to put the shimmy on and hits the accelerator. Thaiday responds by saying "well thats when i flip the switch and go all out"

This is the first time Ive opened this thread, yours is the only post I'll read.

For the first time in years League is getting magnificent positive publicity and its all down to this game.

So please, anyone complaining, whining or just annoying people with your pea-brain, go stick a fork in the toaster.

PS. Make sure its turned on.

 God some people on here are pathetic.

This is going to be an awesome exhibition game played in the right spirit away from the bottom line figure heads who dominate our games these days. I expect to see the ball thrown around, I expect the characters to shine and I expect to get a laugh or two from this match.

At the end of the day, this is going to celebrate everything that is right about the game. How it brings cultures together and the skills involved.

Of what value is this game? Its only purpose is to make non-indigenous people feel warm and fuzzy inside. Is it valuable enough to risk injuries for a chance to win a premiership?

Club games, origin games have purpose. Players are vying for national selection.

Are you on some sort of racism crusade? Anthony?

The value is in the promotion of Rugby League, the teams have travelled around visiting youngsters etc.

What I find funny is blokes like Bird who have a great x 7 grandmother who was an aboriginie claiming they're indigenous.
