Is the All Stars game now officially a joke??

Playing it in quarters, video ref's explaining decisions, coach's miked up....... It was already a joke.

That being said its a bit of fun and its rugby league after a long offseason, looking forward to it.
Can you explain to me why that's such a bad thing?

One stupid comment from a fan, one comment in the heat of the game......the potential for a PR disaster is just below the surface for this one.

Hope nothing happens and the expectations of the organisers are realised.
Yeah this is just what I'm worried about.
The idea is fantastic but there are things that could go wrong.
If they play it similar to the Australian Open's 'Hit For Haiti' albeit trying a bit more I think it would be a fantastic success.

But Benji reckons this is almost Origin. Therefore, I wanna fire up!!!!!

So when Hayne does his length of the field matchwinner and flattens Thurston in the process, I wanna celebrate and bag the losers. I mean, I like indigenous Australians - great people. Yet I spent many years at the footy or in front of the box yelling abuse at Tallis and Mundine. Will I be arrested on this occasion?
You're taking this game a bit too seriously.

i think the selction rpocess for the allstars is kinda skewed. lets say morris, roberts, ryan and ennis are the bulldogs picks. morris gets it, slected on the wing, morris is injured. must be replaced by a bulldog. the squad would then have to be shuffled around ande if multiple injuries occur it just screws the team up.

This is why I don't understand why they didn't do it like this:

Every position has a round, say three days for the fans to pick. Every team offers up their best player or players in a position and the public votes.

Once a player from a team is picked other players from that team cannot be picked in the round.

The order of the positions picked is decided by the coach it should go backs -forwards - backs. Obviously there is no halfback, 5/8, hooker or 1 prop needed.

Leave the 4 automatic selections as is. So we would end up with something like this:

Round 1 Fullbacks (1)
Round 2 Props (1)
Round 3 Centres (2)
Round 4 second row (2)
Round 5 wingers (2)
Round 6 lock (1)

If a player is out of the game they are replaced with the next highest player in the poll. So in the poll every team must continue to nominate but they will not be called up unless a player is injured from that position.

If a player is the next highest ranked but in the side in another position then the coach will decide whether to move that player and take the next highest in the position they moved from or take the third ranked player.

I know that it will mean that not every club may end up getting represented but at least the fans will get their favourite players from who is available.

I don't find it particularly enticing BUT if it wasn't for this We'd be talking about getting rid of the Sharks til march. Its footy in feb who cares.

Issue is that if you made it a straight popularity contest and instead of representing all clubs it would be the Broncos/Bulldogs v Indigenious Team

I've heard Don Tweedle is on standby in case any player from either side decides to go surfing on the night of the game.

If you read the idea fully you will see that it can't do that unless 14 of the players pull out.

Once a player is selected from one team, the other players in that team won't be selected, they are just in the vote as a backup.

But it means not all clubs will be represented. Sort of defeats the current "appeal" of the match.

i am still bemused by ben jones eligibility, i mean if hes eligible than surely alan tongue could ghave gotten a run in the indigenous side. they say his parents are aboriginal but i want to see proof, cause no aboriginal kid or even a halfcast kid looks like that unless theyre albino and he aint albino

Officially a joke.

Sam Thaiday Won't Hurt Locky

SAM Thaiday says he is going to try and be careful when playing against his club captain Darren Lockyer for the first time tomorrow night.

Thaiday will face NRL All Star skipper Lockyer for the first time when he runs out for the Indigenous All Stars at Skilled Park.

But he doesn't want to hit his old mate hard.

"I have faced him in games at training - that's it," Thaiday said before he went into camp.

"I 'll try not to hurt him because we need him for the season.

"I'll just fall over in front of him and he can do the same."

Awesome attitude

2 things.

1. It doesnt sound at all like Thaiday is even the slightest bit serious.

2. Even if he is, its an exhibition match, not a State of Origin. This is probably the one game of football a year where the result isnt important. Its like a celebrity Twenty20 match, just for the fun of it.

It doesn't matter if it was serious...it just continues to perpetuate the view that it's a nothing game. Not a good look at all.

For example everyone knows the WCC is not much more than a trial match, doesn't mean players go out and say that.
