Is the All Stars game now officially a joke??

I doubt they'd actually care but anyway, why is the AFL brought up in so many threads when they have sweet FA to do with the topic? We could be talking about anything about our game and for some pointless and totally irellevant reason someone always brings the other code up. It makes us look and sound nothing short of scared and insecure.
Because everything the AFL do is wonderful and we have to copy it or die when their Gold Coast side takes all the crowds away from the Titans and GWS will have millions go to their games because their best ever coach doesn't know who Hindy is.

Besides, they are a national comp, because they already play in the only 5 places in Australia to have people.

And finally, Perth Red says so.

You said "it's a great concept, we have something to watch after being starved of league for 4 months.
So the WCC isn't on?

This game became a joke when The Dally M Medal winner of the year was chosen as a backup for the current fullback (Billy Slater). It became a further joke when Inglis pulled out. It would've been smashing to see Inglis vs C Smith for once.

Yeah, a centre opposing a hooker would have been brilliant, but now it's not happening the code may as well reunite with Union.

The way I see it, this game does 3 things:

  • Celebrates aboriginality - something this country does very poorly,
  • It's a season launch - filling in the shoes that the sevens used to, and
  • Promotes League on the Gold Coast as that area's main sport.

I'm actually wondering how many who support this game bag the WCC? At least the media are behind it, so the vibe is positive.

The big problem as I see it is that it is yet another tax on our elite players - the long whinge has been that these players shoulder a burden of more games. The sevens allowed these players to opt out while others filled their spaces.

Im not fussed either way.

Game gets extra $$$$

Elite players have to play another game of league - even if this one will be giggles all around and a bit of fun

You said "it's a great concept, we have something to watch after being starved of league for 4 months. A chance to see the top players in the one game. Huge promotion for rugby league" All fair points and the most important points so why the f**k should we care what the AFL thinks either way?

Because they go to so much trouble to promote their indigenous connection. Marngrook? An indigenous round complete with didgeridoos etc. I think this concept will really get up their nose and I like that.

Its obviously a teething problem and if a majority have an issue with it I am sure it will be fixed. If the minority take issue with it, well then stiff shyte unfortunately.

Its a game of footy FFS !!!!! The first game that is more than a trial, it's been a long time to go without footy. Sit back, have a few beers and watch the game and enjoy it. Not a difficult concept.

Quite an interesting mix of opinions. I would suggest that it would be equivalent to a modern day Legends of League game. All the old legends having a run except for the fact the players are current.

For the sake of future games and to keep the interest it would be ideal if the final score was close. So, if in the event one team is giving it to another say 26-6 for example at half time, what happens??? Does that team take the foot off the pedal to allow a closer scoreline??

It will be very interesting to see how it pans out.

The bottom line is, if it is not taken seriously by the players (which i think they will) it will be an entertaining game, sold out crowd, great atmosphere, will get excellent TV ratings, 1st big game of the year. Saturday night, few drinks & a BBQ, watch with the missus, kids & a few mates. All in all a bloody great night coming up.

I think this bloke summed it up best

One stupid comment from a fan, one comment in the heat of the game......the potential for a PR disaster is just below the surface for this one.

Hope nothing happens and the expectations of the organisers are realised.

But Benji reckons this is almost Origin. Therefore, I wanna fire up!!!!!

So when Hayne does his length of the field matchwinner and flattens Thurston in the process, I wanna celebrate and bag the losers. I mean, I like indigenous Australians - great people. Yet I spent many years at the footy or in front of the box yelling abuse at Tallis and Mundine. Will I be arrested on this occasion?

i think the selction rpocess for the allstars is kinda skewed. lets say morris, roberts, ryan and ennis are the bulldogs picks. morris gets it, slected on the wing, morris is injured. must be replaced by a bulldog. the squad would then have to be shuffled around ande if multiple injuries occur it just screws the team up.

this game is a nice idea but only a nice idea

and people who where saying how people complained about origin before it happened. state of origin was already being played before this the game already existed. they just changed the eligibility process. this game is completely new added onto a schedule that most coaches and player already whinge about
