Really? How about I start then.....Cameron Smith was a halfback, Danny Buderus was a halfback, Nathan Fien was a halfback, Nathan Friend I think, Nafe Seluini, John Morris, etc etc......pretty sure there was lots more in the last 10 years as well.

And don't comeback with that crap about you meaning guys who played more than a season at halfback in NRL.....not what you said originally.

 The only legit ones you have there are Fien and Morris and they aren't good halfbacks.

He was a regular first grade halfback before he was a regular first grade centre.

As I was trying to point out with what I said about Lockyer it doesn't have to be something which is done particularly often to be the perfect shift for a particular player.

No team will win a premiership with a denfensive halfback.

You don't pick halfbacks for their defence.

Ah well doesn't matter now.

A try saved in Origin is a try scored mate. Watch the game again and he makes some solid solid tackles on Thaiday and co. in defence.

Not saying he is our saviour but definately doesn't deserve to get dropped.

I don't think he should get dropped. I think he never should have been selected. Now that he has been he deserves to keep his position but I thought Mullen was in much better for than him going into origin (this doesn't mean I think Mullen was playing flawlessly).

Mullen may not have been able to pull off those tackles but I think he would have been able to set up a try or two in the first half, this would have meant more morale for NSW, forwards probably would have grown a pair with that advantage too.

I think Pearce would make a great bench hooker in origin. Maybe he could even work his way up to starting hooker. But he doesn't do the job you need your halfback to.

Stuart kept talking about Pearce being blooded as a future leader blah blah blah, Mullen isn't that much older than Pearce, I think NSW put their eggs in the wrong basket. That said Mullen may be to injury prone and is out for the rest of the season anyway.

Two different play-styles and our forwards gave us shit all so not sure if Mullen would have been able to do anything.

For Origin and Soward pearce is the better choice. Mullen is too much like Soward in their kicking game and they are both not players of the ball.

After 6-7 rds I was convinced Mullo was the better option at halfback for NSW but in the games since I have seen that it really would have been a coin toss between him and Pearce really.

Mullo just fails to consistantly take the game by the scruff of the neck when he needs to. When he is on he is magical but when he is off he struggles to get himself back in the game.

A moot point now that he is injured. If NSW had picked him 1st up we would be faced with having to pick yet another halves combo for game 2

Lol the only thing Mullen and Soward have in common is that they possess the 2 strongest kicking games in the league.

What makes Mullen such a good halfback is that he has very strong football instincts, you can't coach that into a player. If he can fully recover from this injury I think Bennett will turn him into a champion.

The most notable part of Pearce's game is his defence. Being a great defender is NOT the halfback's main job.

IMO Soward and Pearce are very similar players - overreliant on the kick - it's just that Soward is faster and Pearce has better defence.

If you've got a halves combination of Soward and Carney though...you've got a great territorial kicker and another bloke who is a great ballplayer who takes the line on.

You never knw what would have happened he may have got rested if NSW picked him.

Pearce completely lacks the ability to take the game by scruff of the neck and has been average all season.

There were 2 of Mullen's matches which really didn't impress me and that was against the Warriors and Roosters. Pearce has been poor all season apart from in city country where I thought Mullen played really well too. Mullen is by no means pefect but he is a quality halfback who plays like one.

Mullo was pretty bad against the Broncos too (he seems to have nightmares anytime he steps out onto Suncorps surface) and was pretty average against Melbourne.

Meh, like I said its all moot now

sowards and mullen least have variety which pearce has none
pearce will not do a chip kick, he will not do a grubber , he will not do a run around play

pearce will never put the defence under pressure, they will know what pearce will do and have players waiting

nsw or any team pearce is halfback will not win the important games
