The most notable part of Pearce's game is his defence. Being a great defender is NOT the halfback's main job.
disagree qld found out pearce defence is not as good as it makes out because he doesnt do much tackling and is hidden in the defence line
its a media myth pearce has strong defence

last year qld found where pearce was in defence and ran at him and made alot of inroads, which lead to points

same as this year pearce side was the weakest and qld ran to that side

sowards and mullen least have variety which pearce has none
pearce will not do a chip kick, he will not do a grubber , he will not do a run around play

pearce will never put the defence under pressure, they will know what pearce will do and have players waiting

nsw or any team pearce is halfback will not win the important games

True on that one mate. Shame he's injured. Benny should be able to improve his game next-year as well.

Pearce is very predictable in attack, Mullen's game doesn't have that predictability.

I don't know which team you support but I watch our games week in week out and more than once. Mullen is the pinnicle of predictabilty in attack. In the opposition twenty he only chip kicks. His grubbers have been terrible this year. His GREAT kicking game refers to his long kicks, where they find grass or go out in the opposition 10m zone or wins us a 40/20.

I blame Rick Stone for our team's predictability but Mullen definately needs to break loose. He is a 5/8th trying to play halfback. He was fantastic when he first came into the game with Joey making him a little bit of space. Mullen would break the line with his running game, put some great long balls through and be a great following up on breaks. Now he does none of that. All he does is kick long and pass long side to side. If WB can get him to play a similar style to Soward, Mullen will be the best half in the comp hands down. Soward has nothing on Mullen imo in terms of potential however is unfortunate not to have been coached by a great coach yet. Actually in many aspects he has improved drastically under Matty but still has a long way to go.

There is my 2 cents on Mullen.

Cliffhanger only follows the game based on what Gaba says, don't take him seriously. Mullen has his strenghts but he isn't a halfback.

I more meant the fact that Pearce will always kick on the last and only on the last and his inside pass has become too easy for the defence to read.

But I agree that the greatest strength in his kicking game is in his own half. His short kicking game hasn't been as accurate as it usually is recently.

He definitely has a lot of untapped potential. Part of the problem would have to be injury but has game defintely hasn't developed as well as it should have. Especially seeing as this was his 7th season in 1st grade.

Pearce has kicked before the last tackle and he's opted to run the ball on the last before wth are you talking about. Gaba has infected your mind.

Far majority of the time he doesn't even when there's a huge advantage in doing so.

Obviously there's going to be occasional exceptions, but they are very occasional.

As much as I think (know) manlovepearce is, for the most part, full of shit. I do agree with him on one point - Pearce has a lot of potential to develop in to a good half back. Other than that Pearce has been quite poor for the Roosters this year, he had a good year last year, although Carney was better, and I think he was average at best in 2009. Time to live up to your potential Mitchell, you've got 2 more SOO matches.

I love reading Besthalfbackpearce trying to defend Mitchell Pearce. It reminds me of a 13 year old schoolgirl gushing over Justin Bieber.

PS I get the feeling that most of this thread is done tongue-in-cheek to get a rise out of Besthalfbackpearce and really it's not that hard to get a rise out of him. You've only got to be a little bit negative about Pearce or a little bit positive about any Dragons player.

You just have to say "Pearce" to get a rise out of him don't even have to be negative.

Gaba should not be allowed to talk about Pearce, his opinion is usually enterely without foundation and it brings down the credibility of everybody else who's critical of Pearce for legitimate reasons. Do us a favour and just stop.
