"He's just got to play his role and we'll give ourselves a chance.
""There's plenty of things we need to do well and, if we do them, then Mitch is a great player to have.
"But any halfback will tell you - if it isn't happening across the team, everyone will struggle."

Play his role? What is his role? He has had 4 try assists in 11 games. Cant recall the last time he forced a line drop out.

NSW did plenty right in game one (the forwards i mean) yet the NSW halves could still not produced more than 2 tries..vs a team with Thurston as a passenger

I can tell you that it all happened in game one, yet Mitchell could STILL NOT produce anything of note.

LOL @ NSW and Laurie Daley

Has anyone in the media actually came out & criticized Pearce?

We always read articles defending him, which I find strange - since as far as I can see no one has came out & virtually said "He's shit."

Maybe earlier in the year when it seemed like Reynolds had a shot but since it was obvious Mitchell was the choice without question, the media hasn't provided any questions.

I'm sure the floodgates will open when we lose though

we will lose for sure, thats the funny thing. we would have struggled with a fully fit team let alone Hayne and Gallen out.

Surely its Reynolds and Carney/Mullen for next year.

Of course what Daley doesn't consider here is the performance of other NSW halves and the message he is sending.

No matter how well Reynolds, Reynolds, Mullen, Carney and the myriad of other NSW possible halves perform between now and next year, you just can't bump off Junior Junior.

Not a great incentive is it? You can play as well as Alfie, Ricky Stuart and Andrew Johns combined and you won't be good enough.

Don't worry. If NSW lose Pearce will not play again unless the first couple choice halves are injured. Daley took a hit for Merrit after game 2 and he's doing it again here for Pearce He is trying to keep the pressure off him and keep him positive. Mitchell knows this is his very last throw of the dice.

There's a chance this years Dally M medallist will be someone Daley considers to be the 3rd best five eighth in NSW.

If we lose and Pearce is guaranteed a spot next year even if Adam Reynolds is in better form (just like this year) Daley is kidding himself

How can form and consistent failure be ignored so easily?

I would pick Josh Reynolds and Sutton and Mullen and Carney ahead of Maloney. And I would pick Adam Reynolds by a mile ahead of Pearce. I've been of that opinion all year and even more for 2014 if we lose.

Daley just cant keep rewarding losers.

Pissed off that everyone was right and you have no idea about footy, re Merritt?

The last thing Daley wants to be doing is focussing on wether his current halfback who is about to play the biggest game of his life is still there next year. What a way to stick a knife into a guy who's only focus is on a game tomorrow night. The last thing he wants Mitchell to be thinking about is next year. It's easier just to say he's still there next year, Mitchell isn't distracted and can focus on this game.

If we lose, I'm sure he's done but Daley isn't stupid enough to put that pressure on him, Mitchell already knows this is his last chance and has said so himself.

If NZ with Fein at halfback can beat an Australian side with Locky and Thurston in it, surely NSW have a chance with Pearce

For the slow witted, this is an obvious ploy to deflect some of the pressure off Pearce. Realistically Merritt should have been thrown to the hounds after his pathetic display in game 2, but Daley did the right thing and took the blame for it when asked why Merritt was so shite. What message does it send to the other players in the team if the coach scathes your performance publicly?

This is a good move by Daley, we all know Pearce probably shouldn't have got the gig this year, and he sure as hell won't next year unless he has a very good game (unlikely IMO).

Yeah we know what it's supposed to be. The fact is it's going to have the opposite effect and won't make a cockhair's difference to Pearce's ability.

I think there was a big article last year saying Pearce should have played his last game for NSW...

Don't get all excited that this year might be Mythchell Piss' last Origin series for the Blose. Laurie has confirmed that he will be around for a few years to come:

"Origin Loss not the end for Pearce: Daley

Laurie Daley says Mitchell Pearce's NSW career won't be over if Queensland win an eighth successive State of Origin series on Wednesday.
Ever since he was appointed as Ricky Stuart's replacement last year, Daley has maintained Pearce would be his first-choice No.7 and expects the Sydney Roosters star to be in place next year.
Pearce has admitted he doesn't expect to be given another crack at the Maroons in 2014 should he fail once again to guide the Blues to a first series win since 2005 after three years in the role.
However, Daley said he has never entertained the prospect of axing the 24-year-old.
"That is not my expectation. He may feel that, but he's a great kid and he'll be on the scene for a number of years," Daley said.
"He's just got to play his role and we'll give ourselves a chance.
"I've never spoke to him about the last chance or anything about that ... just the team and everything around him."
Pearce has been a target for criticism from Blues fans for what many perceive to be a poor kicking game, but Daley said it was up to the rest of the side to give Pearce the platform to lead the side around the field.
"That's what frustrates me sometimes with Mitch - people are always giving it to him when it goes wrong," he said.
"There's plenty of things we need to do well and, if we do them, then Mitch is a great player to have.
"But any halfback will tell you - if it isn't happening across the team, everyone will struggle."
Daley is also hopeful his side will be given a fair go by referees Shayne Hayne and Ben Cummins.
The Blues were privately seething after losing the penalty count 8-5 in a first half dominated by Queensland as they laid the foundations for their 26-6 win in game two.
One of the issues that caused the most ire was a strip on Ryan Hoffman that went unpunished by Hayne and a belief the 10-metre rule was not being consistently enforced.
The Hoffman incident led to the build-up of the second try scored by Darius Boyd and Daley has met referees boss Daniel Anderson to clarify how the game will be officiated.
Ashley Klein was axed for game three with Hayne kept on, but the feeling among some members of the NSW management is that the wrong man was dropped by Anderson.
Daley was diplomatic when asked what he thought of the choice of officials but hopes Hayne and Cummins will be consistent to both sides.
"I'd like to think NSW would be given a fair crack," Daley said.
"We were aware of the things they were looking for (in game two) ... but that's the way it goes sometimes when you play in front of hostile home crowds.
"There were things that were out of our control and you'd like to think after 20 minutes this time, we'll have more than 20 per cent of possession.
"But we need to be strong in our discipline."

Yeah i forgot to mention that. The halves had nothing to do with the tries scored....oh actually, Pearce passed the ball to Lewis, who gave an inside pass to Hayne to score....so an assist to a try assist.
