I dont think there's been this many close results this early of the season. You normally see a lot at the back end of the year, teams fighting for the top 8.

So far its disappointing for Parra, dropping more games than expected and need to catch up.

But from a neutral perspective, some of the football played has been outstanding, both attack and defense.

Because of this you can see crowds increase and TV ratings go up. Lets see what happens around the Origin period with limited NRL games in some rounds.

The footy has been great, I'm finding myself watching games I wouldn't have normally watched in the past.

Thursday crowds look great, 20k last night, even the Roosters pulled 19k a few weeks back, manly had a Thursday sell out.

Anyone know if crowds and TV ratings overall are up ?

Crowds are on track to beat the record, not sure on ratings overall but have seen them report on some games that rated very high.

I don’t usually care for the Tigers but I thought them beating Penrith was a great look for the comp, the wooden spooners beating the reigning premiers which did seem common in those years mentioned previously like 2003 or 2005.

Our worst start by far since 2019 is what I’ve mostly been thinking about.. but thinking more broadly there is a lot more unpredictability than in recent seasons which increases interest and debate. Dolphins getting 5 wins so quickly has been a real highlight, so too the Warriors improvement. Most teams fans can still hold realistic hopes of their team making the 8 or even the 4.

I tell you what sums up our great game atm.

Compared to the dribble of Australian rules.

On Saturday night we had 2 teams in bottom half of the table win against teams in the top 4 of the ladder away from home.

One of them the Tigers who were winless beat the 2 x reigning premiers.

Compare that to the AFL they had a 108 and 90 point floggings and games were over after 10 mins.

Bottom teams can't compete over there and your lucky to see 1 or 2 upsets from the bottom 4 or 5 sides in a season against the top 6 sides.

The fact that we're nearing the halfway point of the season, and 3 wins is all that separates 2nd last from 2nd, points to this being such a close season. 5 wins is all the difference between 1st and last.

Okay blowouts and a widening of the gap will happen in the second half of the season, but for right now, looking at the table at least, it's looking very good.
