Isaac Luke at it again

Yes, let's ban players using their shoulders and turn it into a shirt grabbing fest, why hasn't anyone thought of that before?
I said shoulder charging someones legs when they are already held upright, there is nothing spectacular about that.

Any tackle can be dangerous, that's the price that comes with playing a contact sport, and if I thought it was dirty I wouldn't be defending it, would I? The quickest way to stop a guys momentum is to take his legs.

Big difference between tackling the legs and taking somebody out of the game by popping a knee out of position. If it was a Melbourne Storm player that popped a leg out using a 'wrestling move' you would be screaming from the roof tops but because it was on 'impact' you aren't.

It's just as dirty.

Would you prefer everyone just shirt gra? But then someone might break a nail, heaven forbid. Harden the f**k up.

I'll deal with the question in a second but these insults do nothing for your point of view.

How is a cricket bat anything like making a tackle?

I don't believe I ever compared a rugby league tackle to cricket. I compared to unacceptable actions in two different sports.

I said shoulder charging someones legs when they are already held upright, there is nothing spectacular about that.

Perhaps a few people should hold him in a upright position for a few minutes and without warning we will get a fit athlete that weighs more then 100 kg diving at the back of the knee.

Then we will see how much damage it can do and see how dirty it is after that.

So you think the tackle isn't dirty and dangerous? That is what I'm asking, not if it is legal or not.

I think the "cannonball" tackle is dirty and dangerous. This particular one was not a "cannonball" as it was not dirty or dangerous. He hit him in the upper thigh/glute. As I said in the other thread, if it's anyone's fault it's Mannering/JWH for bending Shillington back over Luke. The contact Luke made was fine. The fact that Shillington got injured was purely circumstantial.

But I thought Luke was lucky to get off Scot free from the one he did 2 weeks ago. That was bad. This one was fine.

Wasnt really much in it, whole thing happened in seconds after the initial contact. The dozen slow mo replays afterwards made it look worse.

Luke is no angel, but that tackle was fine and it was nice to see some good refereeing ensue i.e. he ignored it.

What the OP has gleefully ignored in his self-consciously righteous thread is that David Shillington was still moving forward in his hit-up. To say he is immune to a tackle of the legs is dubious in the extreme. Especially so when Luke actually hit him in the buttocks first.

A Manly fan would blindly make these histrionic claims yet in the same breath defend the likes of Watmough and Stewart in their rule-bending ways.

I am truly stunned just by how many of you are defending this gutless act!

It doesn't have to be in the rule book to know it's wrong,
- lifting a player when he's unconcious
- dacking an other player
- Pulling another player's hair

You may not find any of those written in the rule book, but every player knows it's wrong to do either of those things...

I watched the tackle again, and it was completely unnecessary of Luke to do what he did, since Shillington was already falling to the ground, which makes it even worse because you then truly understand his intent

I think what many of the "harden-the-f*#*-up" crew don't realise, is just how easily that calf bone can break if you hit the sweet spot... We've seen it countless times in soccer matches when it seems very little force was applied, here is just one of many examples:

Needless to say, launching 100kg shoulder-first at that bone is just a perfect recipe for disaster. And when such an injury happens in League, only then will they think to action...

He sent Tom Symonds packing for the season last year after launching himself at his knee, just your typical Kiwi grub merkin

Good. Tom Symonds is the biggest grub merkin at the Roosters and is always taking blokes out in the air, trying to break their neck.

I hope someone takes him out of the game for good because he'll end up paralyzing someone will Symonds.

Would love to see someone break his knees

Terrible "tackle" which has to be outlawed. The way he got bent over probably didn't help though.

banned for life, and his kids.

you should go watch bowls or something, league is a contact sport.

Don't like the tackle, and yes it needs to be banned. A player is defenseless, isolated and never sees it coming.

Having said that, some of the australian players need to stfu. A team consisting of Smith, Gallen, Thaiday calling another team dirty. Nice one.

It does come across as rather rich that a team with those players in it are moaning about the way another team tackles.
On the tackle it's self, if a player is standing in a tackle and continuing to fight the tackle then another tackler has every right to come in and are try and finish the tackle. One way of getting rid of the tackle is for either the ref to call tackled earlier or for attacking players to stop fighting in the tackle and submit.

 That Australia contain grubs is no excuse for Luke's disgraceful tackles or the fact that they should be outlawed.
