One thing I noticed last night was that Moses makes his long kicks from deep behind our line. Last night he was getting knocked over after most kicks. Beause the defensive line is offside they jog down the field knowing that they have got to allow the kick returner 10m. It makes the defensive line ultra passive and the oppostion rucked the ball out over half way almost every set.

That rule is a blight on the game. I wish they would make all players stand behind the kicker and maybe it would open up the game a bit. Currently it is a couple of ordinary rucks followed by a booming kick with the defenders standing on top of the catcher.

I will give my run down but first I will give my DADS each week. He is almost 80 and has been following the eels hiw whole life.

- Basicaly he knows footy more then most on here due to experience following the game. He doesn't do stats.

His words where -

Both teams where ordinary when it mattered they kept dropping the ball and doing stupid things. Penrith would of wiped the floor with both of them. And then some.
Parra had enough ball to win two games and should of been up by atleast 16 at halftime. Guthersons needs to learn to stop going into dummy half and doing those useless runs where he gets tackled by the marker and kills all momentum. Does it to often and most times marker gets him. He is to slow and runs soft.
Moses was f**ked and D.Brown did nothing.

Murchie was busy and had a go. Solid game. Hopgood was the best on ground. Doorey and Cartwright played well.

Sivo never should of kicked ball. Had to come in as soon as he caught it.
But Parra still have no x factor and no one who creates something out of nothing.

That's perfect if they aren't called.

The guys not played in 18 mths. He will be rusty. He forced a drop put and had a hand in both our tries. What more would you want for his first game in a year and a half?
To make the right call at the death.

My opinion -

Storm always looked more dangerous with the ball. We have more posseaion yet they still made 300mtrs more then we managed. Amd 2 more line breaks.

We to often go into hibernation mode. Start hot then don't play any footy for long periods. Just one up bargy bargy. That's fine at times but we do it for to long periods. Almost like we are not confident enough to try and win the game but waiting for the other side to make an error and hoping we don't lose it.
Doesn't work against good sides. You have to go after them. Storm went for it. They did shy away.

We only seem to want to attack inside the red zone. Storm on multiple sets attacked with their defense. We tend to only put in a tough defensive set in the first 10mins. That's when other sides have all the energy. It's poor coaching. You heat your defense up later in the half. Turn the intensity up when they are fatigued.

All that said it went to Golden Point. You have to wonder if Russel played does he score that try Lumelume didn't? Does he stop Storms first try which Lume made a poor tackle attempt.
And chances are he doesn't drop that pass that lead to Storms game equaling try. Throw in Moses missed conversion. Amd the forward pass.
I feel like we left a possible 14 points on the field and certainly 8. And yes I feel we could of held Storm to 0 had a better winger played.
I don't blame Lumelume he isn't even top 30. He was ok overall.

The guys who dissapointed mostly where the halves and I agree with Dad. Gutherson got in the way to often and those dummy half runs where mainly rubbish.

Sure we can single out Murchie or Greig. But they deserve atleast 10 games to find their groove. Neither where terrible.

Our kick pressure was non existent while Moses was junk he barely had anytime to kick.

We will get some real punch with Lane and Matterson. Add possibly Curtis Sironen and Mataele mid season may suprise us all. The forwards could be good. Hopgood was far better then expected as was Doorey.

We can beat the Sharks.

Those Gutherson runs from dummy half were really pissing me off last night. Useless. He got monstered every time.
Your dad is as smart as me.

Moses seriously needs to vary his kicking game.
He is a one trick pony generally when we are coming out of our own half.
Every kick is one of those high, long bombs which in this day and age most teams handle easily.
Add our appalling kick-chase to that and it was no wonder we were starting every defensive set on the back foot.
I'd like to see him mix it up and at least kick long, low and hard to the corners.
Make the opposition wingers and fullback work hard to get out of their own 20.
And yes, we need to chase harder.

There’s no statistical data supporting his observation either way. But a bloke who works hard and misses f**k all tackles is a key contributor, not a liability.
We talking about Murchie? Who was a huge liability walking back in defence when the opposition runs past him...

Agree 100%

You give them less chances to catch those high looking balls they have less chances to get used to them. It's to predictable.
