"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

no they are not

the lions were lucky not to go under financially about 5 times from 2005 to 2015
& the swans lost 6.5 million last season allbeit off the back of covid but they've never hit the high mark financially lurching between tiny profits & losses for decades & thats with 60K members & some pretty decent on field success
the storm are great on the field but thats where their success ends

none of them still rate on tv to any great extent after nearly 40 years for the swans
I think most of the support for both the lions & swans are still ex pats from the south or their off spring
the impact they've had is overstated & afl spin mainly

the midgets are a plain embarrasment
already in a GF
they can't fill a phone booth & never will

the thuns aren't much better
Lions and Swans have more members and draw higher attendances than all Sydney clubs.

Melbourne Storm are profitable and have been for years. They're also one of the most viewed teams on TV. Last year the NRL GF drew a higher rating in Melbourne than in Brisbane.

The 18th spot they should put out to tender. Let anyone who wants to bid bid and choose the best option be it Perth, NZ, PNG or Adelaide (or Singapore lol). Any of those options are strategically important long term (maybe not Singapore :) ) so lets see who can put together a strong bid that has best chance of long term success. Id say Perth and NZ2 are in the box seat with Perth ahead if Sage really can put $30mill on the table for a new club.
Who’s “sage”?

A potential wealthy backer?

Grew up in the Shire, Cronulla supporter.
Any chance of him working a deal with Cronulla to take them to Perth?

If they could hold onto the Leagues club in Sutherland and have Sage put in a decent sum of money to relocate them to Perth, as the West Coast Sharks, then the club could become one of the biggest and most important in the NRL.

If all 3 pool their resources together they will have a great bid.

why did you choose 1996 ? lol
The master at cherry picking, wow should have kicked out the 2 Sydney clubs that are currently running 2nd and 3rd on the table this year, what a fkn genius! Success in all clubs is cyclical, if we follow dumbshits path we'd have no teams left

Andrew Johns and Gordon Tallis are for relocation and rationalisation.
And both are absolute wankers, and aside from being extremely talented footballers, still short of brain cells when it comes to commenting on the future of any sport..
Gordon "handout" Tallis, and Joey "pillpoppin" johns, lets hand over the ARLC to them, they'll tell the broadcasters whats needed for the game....

Please!

Singapore is apparently unsuitable as an expansion city because a couple of Super Rugby games drew just over 4k fans, but it was okay for Penrith to regularly pull low turnouts of 5k to 7k over a few seasons in the 1990s...

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Can you not see the irony?

Never mind that soccer games at Singapore's National Stadium have drawn sell out crowds of 55k, which is something Penrith will never achieve unless they're in a grand final or preminary final against a team that has a strong fanbase.

In 1996, Penrith drew fewer fans than Western Reds, Gold Coast Chargers and South Queensland Crushers.

In 1997, Gold Coast Chargers, Perth Reds and Adelaide Rams drew more fans through the gate than Penrith. Even the South Queensland Crushers were just 600 fans fewer than Penrith.

Yet the Adelaide Rams, Gold Coast Chargers and Western Reds were kicked out and Penrith were kept around. When this double standard is pointed out, your response is to go psycho and insult the messenger. Grow up and learn how to carry yourself in a coversation. Throwing silly insults around when you don't have a response is embarrassing and says more about you than the person you're shouting at.

penrith started this season with 5 sellout crowds , 4 restricted
but i have little doubt they'd have drawn 5 20K plus crowds with no restrictions if they'd been able to & a few more too during this season

theres more league fans in Mt Druitt alone then all of singapore

singapore ? lol
yeah nah
