"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

the lions have less members then souths & parramatta
& i think parramatta draw higher attendances

the lions n swans are near broke
the storm would be too if they weren't privately owned

singapore
yeah

nah
Parramatta most certainly do not draw higher attendances than Brisbane Lions. Since the Bears merged with Fitzroy in 1997, the highest season attendance average for the Eels was 23,266 in 1999, 18,788 in 2014, 18,396 in 2019. The only year they drew more people through the gate than the Lions was 1999, which was heavily inflated by 104,583 attending the opening of Stadium Australia at the beginning of the season in a double header.

Wouldn't Sydney Souths be broke and collecting wooden spoons if it wasn't for Russell Crowe?

Aren't we talking about crowds in Singapore, you know the next great expansion!, why is parramatta and brisbane lions mentioned on an expansion thread, talk about derailing the subject

Rugby league didn’t work China and it’s going to work in Singapore….
How much money and time was spent developing the game in China?

$0?

How many millions are spent on Sydney each year with media saturation, and an average of well under <15k fans to its games?

Imagine how big RL could be in SE Asian markets if we spent 10% of that money on developing and promoting the game?

You reap what you sow, and RL puts zero effort into developing the game outside of Sydney.

Go ask your fellow Panthers fan. He compared Parramatta crowds with the Brisbane Lions. I corrected his incorrect claim.

Jets and Firehawks supposedly in merger talks...

Wow, then there was two... does that mean ipswich reserve isn't used then, and firehawks brand has planked, just as the bombers before it? These two bids combined would service the non broncos fans, but are they going to be servicing new fans in a new area, so many questions to be answered, they both must have seen how long the dolphins presentation went for and are now panicking, to leave ot this late in the bidding process, means they aren't as fulfilling to what the NRL is looking for in comparison, i got the bombers/jets merger thats an easy one, both from different avenues, but delivering the same brand, but easts and jets are going to be more complicated due to all the promises the jets bid had regarding the new western stadium, a team for the west, seems like they are trying to just get the licence first before settling on a direction, basically they'll be three different sides hobbled together

My bet is Jets and Dolphins both in.
It’ll cover Suncorp (both play games there as well as in their own backyards) and shore up the Ipswich / Redcliffe regions.

extra TV game and no bye.

Quells the AFL is invading rhetoric.
Agreed, seems the best way to get to 18 teams, and increase pathways thru QLD cup to 1st grade, but possibly stagger one team out for a year, for player market availability, last thing you want is the expansion teams to be at each other over wayne bennett or cameron munster, when the following year another coach and marquee signing will arise for that 2nd team... i'd let the dolphins have 1st crack, then the following year, get the Jets/firehawks sort out their branding identity by then, my bet green and orange and a flaming fighterplane tehe

Speaking of 1997...

The Mighty Adelaide Rams had higher crowds in 1997 than all Sydney Clubs... bar Parramatta who beat them by a whopping 317 people per game average.

Just sayin'..

Ill be off now..

I like the rams, but gloating about being roughly better or on average with parramatta, in any metric probably isn't the way to go, they are the current drought champions,
...also the finals choke champions
.....also no lube

The Rams - no wooden spoons in history.

Parramatta - 14 wooden Spoons.

Rams >> Eels.

It’s looking like Dolphins 2023, Jets 2024 (or a year later due to COVID). Two strong bids. NRL going in hard on the AFL in SEQ, lube not an option
Adding two teams in Brisbane in quick succession would be a terrible way to go about that.

It'd do little to address the underlying issues in the grassroots and it'd split the fan base three ways.

Cant see them bringing in two teams, the clubs are blowing up at one! They might have a longer term plan for two more Brisbane clubs but would be pretty ballsy (but at the same time weak from growing the game point of view) to be admitting two in succession. We would end up with two small clubs unable to compete with Broncos which is exactly what we dont need.

Technically the fanbase shouldn't be split, as they are looking to get fans who aren't into rugba leg, you know not cannibalizing broncos or titans, but yeah if they are catering for the bronx haters then 2 extra teams will split that base

If Brisbane gets a third team before Perth and Adelaide get their first I'll basically give up on RL's future potential as a commercial product.

It'd be the most insular and backwards move in the sport's history, and an unforgivable abdication of the ARLC/NRL's responsibility to grow the sport in this country.
