"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

Does not the name “Brisbane” denote the wider metropolitan area? When I think of the place called Brisbane, I think of Caboolture to Logan, and out to Ipswich. And I think the vast majority of the population agree.

My main reason for backing Moreton Bay over Brisbane is that it rolls off the tongue with Dolphins much better!
Brisbane's metropolitan area covers many communities that are at odds with one another. Logan and Ipswich are disrespected by snobby people who are from Brisbane. I know people from Logan who refuse to mention where they're from because they're sick of being ridiculed.

I don't want to support a team that represents people from cities that think they're better than anyone from Logan.

lol yeah okay, even though a large portion of Broncos fans and players have come from Ipswich and Logan over the years.

I think London, Sydney and Melbourne might be the only cities in the world that have multiple suburban clubs in professional comps. Cities like Milan and Madrid have 2 main football clubs - AC Milan and Inter Milan, then you got Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid.

Manchester and Liverpool have football teams around their outskirts like Everton, Bolton, Wigan but these clubs were established well over 100 years ago.

With the rich history of RL in Brisbane, with Redcliffe being a big part of that history and with Brisbane not being an oversaturated market, I think Redcliffe will be fine, even if they use the name Redcliffe (which they've already stated they probably won't so it will probably be Brisbane Dolphins anyway).

There are more Everton supporters in the heart of Liverpool that the Reds. They are based within the city across the park from Anfield. Their new Stadium is being built at the docks right in the heart of Liverpool. The blues have us much claim to the city as the reds.

I never said that they didn't, so I don't know what point you're trying to make.

you keep saying Broncos is for the inner city "latte sippers" and people from Logan and Ipswich hate Brisbane. There are people from the inner city who do dump shit on those areas but you are taking it to heart too much. Most young people who once lived close to the city are probably going to end up buying their first house in place like Logan, Ipswich, Pine Rivers, so the jokes on them isn't it.

Hope you are right, anyway it's all good debate. I think some people just don't have much faith in the NRL or any club administration to build a successful expansion club.

I think there is an opportunity to create another largish club in Brisbane than can average over 20k a game season after season, just don't want to see the opportunity wasted with a small suburban team that only appeals to a few suburbs. Maybe Redcliffe Dolphins will start small and get bigger over time, I hope they do.

Inner suburbs are a wasteland these days. You're better off living in Logan or Redlands.

You’re a weird lot over east, if you live in perth metro area people say they live in perth, they don’t identify with the suburb unless someone else from perth asks you where abouts in perth you live!

It is exactly the same here mate, Donkey is more talking about the cultural cringe in some areas.

Almost every major football rivalry is built on rich vs poor motif.
Most major sports rivalries are built on a mix of perceived grievances, and sure sometimes class warfare can be an element of that, but more often than not geography, a David vs Goliath narrative (often on both sides), and history between the two teams are the main motivators.

Also aside from ethnic conflict, class conflict tends to be the most dangerous narrative to build a sports rivalry on IMO.

Trust me, the FA (and others) spent decades trying to stamp that shit out of their leagues for a reason, and we don't want to be in that position if we can avoid it.

Ranking the bids in order:
Brisbane Jets (especially if the reported potential for a connection with Newtown ends up happening)
Brisbane Dolphins (The Sunshine State And River City Dolphins are terrible names)
Brisbane Firehawks (This would be #1 if they got to be Brisbane Tigers and Wests went back to being Magpies).

The last thing Brisbane 2 needs is to be linked with a NSWRL club. Sydney already has 9 teams. Newtown Jets aren't any more important than the 9 BRL clubs that were around in 1987.

Tell it to their own media people who reached out to the Jets about including the blue stripe on their jersey.

Also yes, Newtown are vastly more important than several of the old BRL teams.
