Bird has talent yet a bit of an attittude just like Hastings.

Imo Hutchinson, Dufty, Crook, Founa-Blake and Aitken are better long term prospects
plus the Dragons some how nabbed both Luke and Matt jurd from the sharks who also have bright futures.

Jack Bird- what a cheeky fella he is. Saw him at a cronulla cafe yesterday with the whole team, and he strutted around in there like he owned the place...and the hot waitress

Yeah, he has ability but a stack more confidence - interesting to see how he goes with Cronulla. After seeing Sione Mata'utia play for Australia, it would really have an impact on Bird to watch a guy younger than he is playing for his country. It's great to be ambitious but he needs to be careful & not let it affect his performances. If he doesn't play NRL in the first month or so, he needs to be patient & not let the delay have a negative impact.

I hope he succeeds, but he could turn out to be another player who stood out at junior level & can't make the transition to the NRL.

Of that group, Hutchinson has played the most outside of under 20's & seems to be a mature player who doesn't panic, with good decision making a great attribute.

Hi gents. Love reading your thoughts. Thought I might join and add my bit to the forum. I know the two young Jurd boys. Matt played NSWCHS, SG Ball & NSW 18s Origin this year. Younger brother Luke played Cronulla Harold matts and then Shellharbour 18s, which was 2+ yrs up in age. Matts a prop, Luke plays #6. These boys are dragons through and through. Local lads who went to the sharks only temporarily.

GJ, any relation to Stan Jurd, or his brother David?

Yes Gipp, they are related but not close. Funny they were telling me Matt Jurd played in Darwin this July for NSW in the Aussie Schollboys carnival. Stayed in the same hotel as Noel "Crusher" Cleal, who grew up in Whyalla with Stan & David. Crusher and Stan came down to Sydney together I believe.

Thanks bottle and truesaint for the welcome. It's hard and expensive work developing our junior blood to see it walk away. Unfortunately is difficult to make some young men patient when they need to be. The grass is not often greener but brown when you arrive and get told the real story. I think the Jurd boys stepped backwards to go forwards, at times you need too.
